The strips are the width of the fabric, which is approximately 44 inches.
Hi Wilma,br>With just one jelly roll, you can make a lap quilt. Good luck with your quilting! Renee
It all depends on the pattern you're working with. One jelly roll will not go far enough to make a large quilt if you want to make a simple strip quilt like a jelly roll race or jelly roll jam without any extra fabrics. I make a lot of queen size quilts in various block designs and with background fabric and borders added, and sometimes two jelly rolls will suffice, but some patterns call for three jelly rolls for a queen. Finding a pattern you like and calculating your requirements from there is something I strongly recommend. Missouri Star Quilt Company (search YouTube for Missouri Star Jelly Roll Quilt) and Moda Bakeshop are two great places to find a lot of free jelly roll patterns. Thimble Blossoms has some very cute patterns for jelly roll quilts that you can purchase. There are plenty more, but I particularly like those.
In most cases, each color has two strips, but some only have one. I'd say there are 18 distinct colors. I used mine to make a "tuffet," which calls for 64 20" strips, so I didn't use them all. The colors are stunning.

This quilt for my sister was made with two of these rolls and black skinny strips. I'm very pleased with the outcome!.
Colors are very nice. The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because the greens were unexpectedly bright - They have a lime green to a kelly green hue to them. I was also surprised by how bright the other colors are. Still lovely, but not quite what I had hoped for based on the photo. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> I just finished a jelly roll race quilt top with this (it's only the top so far), and HOLY COW do I love how it turned out. So, so lovely.
This is just one jellyroll of great fabric for a quilt.
This lovely jelly roll is being used to make a quilt.
The colors are lovely, but there isn't enough of them to make a statement. So, if you're going to use the strips on something big, you'll need a lot more strips.
This is a lovely set of 2 1/2 inch strips that would make a lovely lap quilt when combined with a dark or light solid color. It's a nice break from more complicated projects. Allpeoplequilt. com has a number of free patterns for using strips in both simple and complex patterns. Now I'm looking forward to seeing the sun set!.
I couldn't decide how many stars to give this product because the fabric is wonderful, but the way it was cut is lacking. It was difficult to keep the seam allowances even because there were so many fraying threads. I had to go back and widen the seams in a couple of places. Even as I was putting the layers together to be quilted, I had to patch one of the seams. br>On the plus side, having precut 2 1/2" strips made my most recent quilt go together quickly and easily, and it looked great because it was Kona fabric. I was thinking about ordering more jelly rolls, but if they're all cut the same, I'd rather cut them myself.
I bought this to use as my first quilt, and it was incredibly simple to use with the jelly roll race pattern. I've bordered it in black, and my only dilemma now is whether to quilt it with black and white variegated thread or grey variegated thread.
