Questions & Answers
I've never had a problem using my mat with a craft iron next to my sewing machine for small parts of larger projects. When this question was raised, I decided to put it to the test. It had never been used all over, with a full-size iron, or on both sides. I used full steam and a COTTON setting on my full-size iron. I pressed several times all over the mat and on both sides for about twenty minutes on a scrap piece of fabric. With or without steam, I had no trouble transferring any type of film to my fabric. Have you spoken to the manufacturer about this? Best of luck!
Thread is done with a lint roller. If the whole thing needs to be cleaned, I'd take it to a dry cleaner.
It comes in a box that is just big enough to hold the matt. They are adamant about not bending the rule. I'm not sure how much it weighs, but it's probably around a pound. If you send an email to the seller, he or she should be able to respond. At the bottom of the sale page, you should find a contact form.
The pressing mat's origin is unknown to me. It states that 100% Natural New Zealand Wool is used. This leads me to believe it's from New Zealand.

This has left me very disappointed. It gives off an unpleasant odor when ironed on. As the odor travels up the stairs to the rest of the house, my entire family is complaining. It also smells terrible on the fabric I ironed. I even used an ironing spray to see if it would help. However, the odor is far too strong to justify. I wish I could get my money back because I spent it too long hoping the odor would go away (which it hasn't).
I'm a quilter who also makes children's clothes, totes, and other items, but I've been out of the loop for about 18 months due to surgeries and the like. When I got back into sewing and was browsing Amazon for supplies, this Wool Mat caught my eye. I had never seen one before but was intrigued because my ironing quilt-like pad worked but not as well as I would have liked, and the fact that no steam was required intrigued me even more, so I ordered this mat based on size and price. Holy cow, I will never iron my pieces any other way again. This greatly simplifies the process, is easy to store on my cutting table, and does not require the use of steam. From here on out, I can't imagine not using it.
When I first used this mat, someone in the reviews said it smelled like a barnyard, and I had to laugh because it does smell exactly like a pile of composting hay. "Do you smell something funny?" he asks, not in a subtle way. " type of way. I'm referring to the kind of hot, steamy petting zoo you'd find in North Georgia. You'd better double-check that you really, really need crisp fabrics. However, it is both inexpensive and functional, so there's that. . . . You get what you pay for, just like everything else on Amazon.
I'd been successfully pressing small items with a Steady Betty, but I wanted to give a wool mat a try. My "Betty" never leaked heat under it, and I was surprised to find that this wool mat did, forcing you to use it on an ironing board, defeating the purpose and convenience of setting it on a table. It warped my cutting mat in 5 minutes when I placed it on top of it. I was fortunate in that I was able to flatten the mat once more. The other problem is that if you use steam, which most people do, it stinks awful. I returned it because I don't believe it is a worthwhile purchase. Very let down.
I only have a small sewing room, so a full-size ironing board would take up too much room. This quilting pad sits on a small table next to my sewing machine and comes in handy for the majority of my quilting. Now I have more space to work, and ironing is a breeze with this pad. Love it.
This mat melts in the presence of iron heat. My iron became covered in a gummy black film. Although I was able to remove the iron, I did damage some of the fabric. I'm not happy with this because it's supposed to be an ironing mat.
I'd read a lot of good things about the wool pressing mats. I've seen a lot of videos where one is used. I figured I'd give this one a shot because it was reasonably priced. While it does the job, I can't tell the difference between pressing on a well-padded ironing board and pressing on this mat. I wouldn't have tried it if it hadn't been less than $20. I'll keep using it, but it's not something I'd go out of my way to buy again.
This item caught my eye while watching a video on how to make face masks and I knew it was exactly what I needed. , I received my order on time, and the product is excellent.
