I'm not certain. The pressing mat, on the other hand, is one of my favorites.
Yes, and it functions flawlessly! For the simple press, I highly recommend it!
This is used to press on a rigid plastic printer cart that I keep next to my sewing machine, with a quilted ironing mat in the middle. Although it gets hot, the plastic does not warp. Excessive steaming can cause water to condense on the mat. On a cutting mat, I would be cautious, but I believe it would be fine if you put a barrier between them, such as a towel or something. Take it slow and easy. The wool rug is quite substantial.

It does what it's supposed to do. At $24 and change, this mat is a fantastic deal. I'd been looking for a wool pressing mat for quite some time, but the price had always deterred me. 17" x 13" is the exact size. The straight pins are great and have a sharp point (which not all do), the measuring tape has inches on one side and centimeters on the other, and the little nippers are great. I just wish it had a hole or loop so I could hang it around my neck while sewing. When ironing or steaming, there is a slight odor that isn't overpowering, but given that these are natural fibers, it does dissipate. It's nothing to be concerned about, but it's something to be aware of.
I just received this wool mat yesterday and am already blown away by how well it performs. This was purchased so that I could store my large ironing board and use only this for pressing (I mostly quilt). The ease with which it irons even the most difficult wrinkles astounds me. There is a slight wool odor, but anyone who has felted wool or worked with wool in any other capacity will recognize it. Even with a lot of steam, I didn't think the wool smelled too bad. The freebie is quite useful, and the felt bag is larger than expected (approximately 6" x 7") - I'm very pleased with this purchase, which came as a pleasant surprise!.
When using steam, it smells exactly like a wet animal. However, because the odor does not linger on my fabric, I do not consider it a major issue. The mats are thick and sturdy, but the heat and steam permeate the entire surface. This isn't something I'd put on a nice wood table. Now that's out of the way, let's get to the meat of the matter. I sew the most gorgeous seams! My quilt blocks are incredibly flat, and I love how they turned out. It makes a huge difference for me (especially when compared to a cheap and lumpy fold-up ironing board). Overall, 5 stars for what I wanted and needed it to do, and 3 stars because it DOES NOT PREVENT HEAT TRANSFER, as it claims. I wouldn't be happy if I bought this to use as an actual ironing mat on my kitchen table (as it claims to be).
After that, I noticed residue on some of my quilt pieces, which had now adhered to my iron. Brownish stain marks can be seen where poly fibers or other non-woven materials have been used. The wool filler had melted and was no longer usable. I'm extremely disappointed!.
I'm a weaver, so I'm used to dealing with wool (some of which has no odor, while others have strong odors). br>br>I needed a larger mat for a different station in my studio because I'm also a quilter. I like the larger size, and I have a smaller, odor-free mat from a different brand that I like. br>br>However, when heat is applied, it emits a strong odor, which is particularly unpleasant when steam is used. It doesn't have any odor when it's cool and dry (not in use). I can deal with it, but I'd rather not. br>br>I'm thinking of taking it to the dry cleaners to see if they can help, or soaking it in vinegar or lemon water. However, I've found in my weaving that some wool simply retains the scent of its origin and that nothing can get rid of it. br>br>I've asked my weaver friends for suggestions, but I'd love to hear from Amazon customers as well.
I'm overjoyed that I won't have to drag out my entire ironing board every time I want to sew. I knew this item would be ideal for me as soon as I saw it. I had my husband make a topper for an Ikea cart out of wood, and I keep this felt mat on it so that I can quickly and easily press something. It's right next to where I keep my sewing machine. I've never seen or handled another of these felt mats, so I can't really compare them. This one, on the other hand, has a great feel to it and is a good thickness.
I'm glad I can use a steam iron on it without damaging the surface underneath. It's perfect for touch-up ironing and mask-making.
Making masks with this is one of my favorite things to do with it. It really helps with ironing, and while it says you don't have to use the steam function on your iron, I find it works better when you do. I really like the small travel bag with all of the extras.
