Japan-based Olfa is one of the world's largest roofing contractors Japan is the country where they manufacture all their products. Established in 1956, they've been doing business for a long time. There is a reputation for quality among their I'm not clear as to what you mean by "terrible" *br>We would not carry their products if they did not meet our high standards or were not as described.
It looks like some type of synthetic rubber/plastic, but I have no idea what it is made of. It is often the case with plastics that there is some off-gassing at first, but it soon disappears. Mats such as this one are safe for use. you're worried about the smell, lay the sofa flat in another room (or garage) for a day or two to get rid of it. Put an end to your mother's whining. There is no danger to health from this product.
It is actually quite smooth, so I don't think there will be any difficulty with tracing lines on it.

I received my mat yesterday, it was on time, perfectly flat, and in excellent condition As the chemical odor is so bad, I had to put it out on the patio table this morning because I wasn't able to use it yet. The smell of it is now emanating from even my craft table which I scrubbed. There is a smell in my room, and I'm hoping it will be gone after a few days in the fresh air. My intention is to send it back if it does not. During the first week of cleaning, I laid this mat flat on the porch, then moved it inside for the next The smell was too much to handle, but I returned it nonetheless. It's possible that one of the ingredients was out of balance. There is usually nothing to complain about when it comes to Olfa products.
I was really looking forward to this cutting mat, but even though it is the perfect size and has great markings that can be very helpful, it smells terrible. It quickly filled three rooms of my apartment with a foul smell after I unpacked it. There is an extremely foul rubbery smell to it. Now that I have read other reviews, I see that I am not the only customer experiencing this problem. Sadly, I don't see any solutions except for finding another brand. I have an old Olfa cutting mat that was brand new thirty years ago, and its fragrance never occurred.
Purchasing a small Olfa mat to begin with was a dumb decision on my part. Recently, I started quilting and bought an Olfa mat to begin I decided to get a new mat when it was time for something bigger and more versatile. It had received many positive reviews, so I figured it was the same as all other mats. That was a mistake on my part, I used it once and then ordered this to replace it. Both of my Olfa mats have never caused me any problems. In theory, the rotary cutter should go into this and I have not seen any cut lines, no fabric lint stuck in the surface, and no surface bits that are ripped As I am cutting now, it just lays there looking perfect at the side of my table, protecting my table and giving me a nice smooth surface. Honestly, I have no idea how long these are supposed to last, but I am expecting that they will be just as nice for years to come.
Amazon misled me by stating that there was a side for general cuts and a side for intricate cuts. The board I received only had one side. As a result, I need to go to the UPS store to return it. *I disliked the mat anyway since it did not have intermediate guide lines on one layer, and it did not have a handle. The clock just ticked over to.
This item had to be returned on the same day I received it due to a strange I made some cuts to test it out and it looks great (I liked the finer grid in the middle), but the off-center result wasn't what I'd hoped for It is horrible to suffer from gassing. The last thing I wanted was for it to stay in my office over night so I packed it up and put it in the garage so I could return it the next day. The smell of this mat is a lot worse than other products that smell bad. I'm not usually sensitive to smells or have even a mild aversion to plastics. The reviews suggested that the smell continued for months, and the manufacturer suggested cleaning it with water and vinegar (possibly multiple times) to get rid of it. However, I did not want to mess up the product or risk my return opportunity by trying that method. I am going to try a Calibre Art mat next (which is more expensive, but I have heard it won't damage my nose), since Amazon always offers excellent return policies.
As it turned out, I'm bad at visualizing product dimensions, as I replaced a much smaller board and couldn't find one that fit. There is a bit of a hassle with this one. Regarding the smell, it smells exactly as it should, but there is quite a bit of smell to it. It was a bit too strong so I moved it to my office. It will fade with time, but out of the box, there was quite a bit.
With this mat, you do not have to fold the fabric more than once, as well as move it under the quilt to cut it into strips. If you don't have a long enough ruler, try it! In the area with the smaller grid (with more lines), I didn't care much for it. If you are a half-inch or an inch from the edge, you have trouble determining where you are The inch markings are on the right.
The first time I got it, there was a rubber smell but I was able to get rid of it after a couple of days. We only have one concern about the mat. It came with a bit of stain that we cannot remove. In other words, there is nothing that I would complain about!.
