It was a decent set, but I had hoped for a higher quality
3/5

Ok soooo. This will be lengthy, but if you are just beginning to sew and are considering your options, this will be of interest. br>Let's start with a little background: br>I recently began a sewing class and had only attempted to sew with a sewing machine a little over a month ago, but I found it so enjoyable that I decided to invest in some essentials to make my work easier and better. br>I enjoy seriously over-doing things. read and reread That's why I debated buying this over buying the components separately from "tried and true" brands for quite a while. Finally, I looked up a company that appeared to be relatively new and affiliated with Bernina (I liked their machines and will be in the market for one soon), hoping that they were attempting to establish themselves as quality manufacturers. br>I purchased this kit for a variety of reasons:
1. There was just something about opening a box of goodies that was exciting. br>2. According to my calculations, for about 18 dollars more, I got a few little extras to try that I would not have bought otherwise (because it would have cost a lot more), so it seemed like a good opportunity to try some of the gadgets before going all out (like buying a hundred clips, etc). br>3. I was curious about the quality of the items before deciding whether or not to purchase an eversewn machine. br>4. The shears' sizes were larger than the ones I was looking for otherwisebr>br>So here are my thoughts on this setbr>The good:
1. In general, this is a good starter kitbr>2. I really like the magnetic pincushion; it's heavy and sturdy, has a handy storage compartment below, and comes with 25 pins (in addition to the 100 glass head pins that come separately in the pack). I also like the groove because it aids in taking a pin without becoming stuck. It arranges all of the pins in the same direction, unlike some others I've seen, so they aren't scattered all over the cushion. Because I have small children, I can't afford to have pins lying around, and sticking them one by one into a traditional cushion while sewing is a pain. With this, all I have to do is toss them in a general direction and voila!
2. The scissors are comfortable to hold in the hand - They're small but sturdy, and they cut far better with every millimetre of the blade than my current scissors (which were cheap from a local sewing shop).
3. The thread nipper cuts well, and I've found it to be surprisingly useful (it's one of those things I wasn't planning on getting because, after all, why can't you just use your scissors? But this little guy makes it so much easier to cut the threads by allowing you to get close and parallel to the fabric. )br>4. The pins are better than the ones I had before (cheap generic ones that come with any sewing kit) and haven't bent yet. br>5. I'm glad I have the few clips because they came in handy when I needed to estimate the fit of a dress I was making. It's just faster (and less prickly to put on) than pinning something you aren't going to stitch right away.
5. The marker and pen appear to be in good working order, but I have yet to attempt to remove the markings.
6. So far, the seam gauge has performed admirably, and the plastic component has not moved on its own. The one I got differs slightly from the one pictured, which is a good thing because it has better contrast and notches for each inch. I'll take some photos and post them here. Not so good: br>br>Not so good: br>br>Not so good: br>br>
1. The cutting mat arrived warped, and despite spending the night under my old, heavy sewing machine, it has yet to straighten out. After attempting to straighten it, this photo was taken. The mat has a strong odor as well. When I first got it out of the box, it bothered me, but after the second day, it's become much less noticeable.
2. The shears' blade is small in comparison to their overall size; I'll take a photo, but it's about the same size as the blade on my current scissors, which are an inch shorter. br>3. The labels on the shears and rotary cutter are misplaced, and this does not inspire confidence in the product's quality. On the photo, you can see the shears' label peeling away.
4. I'm so dissatisfied with the thin, stiff measuring tape (it's worse than a cheap Chinese one I bought at my local sewing shop - I took a picture of the two side by side, and it was a total bummer).
5. The magnetic pincushion cones with 60 pins are claimed on the kit's box. What the hell is going on here? (I took a picture of the box and the pincushion packaging to show the difference. )
6. There are no measurements on the clips like there are on the clover clips, but that's not a big deal. breaker, but I assumed it was standard. br>7. Finally, a word on the environment: I'm not sure why each item requires its own plastic packaging. Overall, it's a good set to get you started, but I was hoping for a higher-quality set. I suppose only time will tell how well it will hold up over time.

Beginners will find this to be nearly perfect
4/5

As a beginner, I purchased this to ensure that I had all of the necessary tools to get started sewing. Most of the items in the set are still in use, but the rotary cutter is a complete waste of money. I'd give it five stars if it were better, but I'm happy with the rest of the set. The blade falls off the rotary cutter when it unscrews itself while in use. So I'm cutting something with a cutter, and I have to keep tightening the screw that holds the blade in place WHILE I'm cutting. br>For someone who is just getting started, I think this set is almost ideal; however, you will need to purchase a rotary cutter separately.

The money spent was not well spent
3/5

The fabric pen and marker only worked once, and the scissors are the worst I've ever used in my life. The cutting mat is too small for me, but the rotary cutter and magnetic pin holder are fantastic. Overall, I do not believe that this kit is worth the money. You can get a better deal somewhere else. This was a mistake on my part.

This is an excellent starter kit
5/5

It comes highly recommended! I had only recently begun sewing and required nearly everything. The majority of the items in this starter kit are of good quality, at least as far as I'm aware- This is not my area of expertise. It's possible that the measuring tape could have been less "paper-like. " Except for one of the pens and the sewing gauge, I've used almost every tool in the kit. Fabric chalk was one thing I missed, and I wished the cutting mat was twice as big--you can't cut much on such a small mat without it being a pain. Almost everything was in cute, complementary colors and came in a box that you can use to store your belongings. I am overjoyed!.

This is an excellent starter package
5/5

With no sewing experience, I was able to obtain this and my machine. This kit was awesome because it came complete with 90% of what I needed. Even things I didn't realize I would require at the outset. This kit was perfect for my first project, which was a simple quilt. For large items, you'll want to upgrade to a larger cutting may and rulers as soon as possible, but I still use the one that came with the kit.

This is an excellent starter package
5/5

This is a great starter kit for someone who knows they want to learn how to sew. They aren't top-of-the-line items, but they get the job done. This is part of my sewing travel kit, so I don't have to bring all of my regular sewing supplies when I go on vacation. So far, everything seems to be going swimmingly. This kit contains more useful items than the $15 starter kits that are commonly available.

Nice Kit
4/5

The set as a whole is fantastic, but the only reason I gave it a four star rating is because the rotary cutter is mediocre; I had to go over my fabric multiple times to ensure it was completely cut, even after pressing it down extremely hard; however, I was pleased with everything else and use the items on a regular basis.

This kit is ideal for beginners
5/5

I'm new to sewing and after looking at a few different sets, I decided on this one, which did not disappoint! All of the blades were razor sharp, and I've used all of the products in the set, and they're all fantastic! This is my favorite beginner sewing kit, but it's also great for experienced sewers! I'll admit that the pins aren't of the highest quality, but they'll suffice, and the magnetic pin holder is fantastic!.
