Purple Thangs came in a plastic zip lock bag and came in a single package of two. While there were no instructions, I was able to figure out some uses from looking at the information on Amazon. With the curved tip, I can poke out sewn corners, plus I use it to feed unruly pieces of fabric under the feed dog on my sewing machine. Additionally, the flat end can also be used for this purpose and it is 1/4 inch in size, which is useful when measuring seams that are quarter inch wide. An actual slot has been cut into the main part of the tool. This is great for threading smaller elastics (sizes 1/4" and under) through fabric channels and tubes. It is the most important device in my life and I cannot imagine living In the past months, I have made a lot of masks and it has been a real time saver, especially with the elastic and turning the masks right-side up. The fact that the set came with two is also useful because I lose them while working, just like a seam gauge. The purple stick is also great because it's not black so when I misplace it, I can easily locate it.
The reason I prefer this to a stiletto while wearing them is I don't have to worry about getting fabric caught, or trying to put my stilettos under a needle while sewing, as I'm concentrating on the seam itself. I am stunned. I attribute its saving my life to it. Purple Thang can be used in so many ways that I don't know how I survived for so long without it. Getting corners out and working with Minky material has been SO much easier since I got this! If you sew or craft, this is definitely worth a try!.
In making masks to donate, I've found it hard to stitch the pleats Some of the time the fabric slides and I end up with zigzagged edges instead of the neat ones I want I am Zaggy. With this tool, the fabric can be guided and kept in place until the feed dogs and presser foot can control it. My family and friends recommend it, and it is a great tool for sewing this type of garment. It can be used for many craft projects, but I have never had a need to use it for anything else.
This item can be used for several purposes. I've tied them to ribbons and pinned one to the cover of my ironing board and one to the pockets in front of my sewing machine. That way they won't wander away. One that I used to have wore on a ribbon around my neck and I always made sure to keep it there, but somehow I managed to lose it. This way I can poke and push and turn material whenever I need them because they're always in my hands. My cutting table might even get two more to put on it.
