In fact, yes. On mine I use it on the throat plate. These are very strong magnets, so I keep it on there.

This is almost too good to be true

Magnetic guides like this one are made using strong magnets. With the guide surrounded/ embedded in a VERY soft, adhesive plastic, and coupled with the very weak magnet, it makes it impossible to position. Without the "lift" tab on one end, I could not get the guide out of the needle plate with just my fingers. It was necessary to superglue a piece of cardboard, which was cut from a cereal box, to the bottom of the guide, so the magnet could be positioned on the needle plate, as shown in the attached photo, with the guide easily lifting two, one pound machine setup blocks. Due to the adhesiveness of the plastic surrounding the magnet, an 8 oz pull magnet would have been more than enough.

They are VERY strong magnets Those who are down have a tendency to be a bit hard to move. There isn't much lead before you get to the measuring edge, so it's hard as well to line the fabric up while watching as it goes under the foot at the same time. I don't use these for typical seam allowances, only for things that are a bit odd.

Magnetic seam guides sounded really great, but I wasn't able to love them. While the concept is great, the use of them is so challenging. There is a lot of force in the magnet. The snap is so strong that it grabs a hold of the needle plate on your sewing machine and you won't be able to adjust the position! There needs to be a major overhaul of the design.
