It's nothing like the other. Pastelmat makes it easier to add more detail. Velour can be difficult to work with and produces "softer" results. Try both for yourself by looking up Jason Morgan's pastel surface comparison on YouTube.
The nap on this paper is extremely fine. It's not as fuzzy as it appears. The nap is similar to that of velour cloth rather than velvet. It's great for pastels, but it doesn't hold detail or strokes as well as paper does.

First and foremost, secure this paper to a sturdy backing. Second, use hard pastels and pastel pencils to transfer your drawing from a sketch, as erasing can be difficult. It's great for animal pastels, but it takes a while to get used to.
I'd heard good things about velour and decided to try a sample to see what I thought. Then I placed an order for these larger, thicker sheets. The dry pastels are held in many layers by the velour, creating a velvety effect. If they haven't tried it yet, I recommend this paper for paste lists.
This texture is fantastic! Pastels are easy to apply, and the pigment holds up well on the surface.
The pastel paper is very nice. I've been wanting to try this paper for a long time, and the price and quick shipping make it a no-brainer.
I finally tried this paper, and I think I'm going to like it a lot for animal paintings.
In line with expectations.
