Even after reading other reviews I liked these pens. Pulling them out firmly is all that needs to be done. Do not shake the paint pens with the tops on, or the paint will be all over the place. The tip of the nib should be covered with paint before starting to paint. Push the tip down several times to ensure it is covered. Colors are not as varied as other kits, but for a beginner there are enough possible choices and the colors themselves are above rock is my very first attempt at painting rocks and the colors are quite nice even if the work itself does not.
