For a start, I purchased good quality brushes (black velvet) and a Princeton Neptune paintbrush. As it turns out, I spent some money on Mimik brushes and wish I had bought them sooner because they work so well and are so affordable. Starting with these brushes will be the best choice if you're not an artist yet.
In a nutshell As I'd been told the size 30 sheds the most, but that's just not the case. Well, it sheds more than an unhealthy (They are not included in this set) I have a few Mimik squirrel brushes I don't recall my Mimiks shed that much, so I am wondering if this is just a quality control issue or if this set of Mimiks is quite old and the problem has been resolved in a later version. In situations where I need to hold more water, I use my Kolinsky brushes. I use a Creative Mark Mimik when I want to use less water and have more control, they also lift color better.
It is a pleasure to use these brushes. Besides having soft, springy bristles, they can hold a substantial amount of water, taking up very little space, and coming to a sharp end. A dangerous loose ferrule appeared on the single flat brush and was shortly after detached from the handle, due to a manufacturing defect. I am super disappointed. Although it was possible for me to glue it back, the quality control here is poor.
