Questions & Answers
The surface is still smooth enough for coloring, but slight textures give them a unique appearance.
Considering that the corners are curved, no, it wouldn't fit.
As deep as they are, they prevent things from sliding over the edge - plates, bowls, pots, etc, but cups don't so well since they tend to tip from the top.

It comes in a variety of colors and sizes. What I am looking for is stability. The edge of these trays should touch flat to the table, so leaning on the edge is unlikely to turn it over. Unlike some trays with extended lips for lifting, these have a curled edge. It was not to be. Even though the rolled edge helps with stability, it doesn't prevent the contents from flipping over if you lean on it. It is what it is.
The trays are good quality, and the surfaces are slightly textured to prevent the plates from sliding around if using them as The trays were used for a large gathering in order to stop food and drink spills on couches and carpets since people not seated at tables could set their food and drink on their laps on the trays. I liked how they worked.
This was for a school project (I am not a teacher, but my child is. ) Easy clean-up and the ability to move on to the next group of children made it great. Paint was completely covering a piece of paper (edge to edge), so everything went much more smoothly as a result. They have also come in handy at home for making jewelry, storing Lego blocks for projects, and am sure they will be useful in other ways.
It will be nice if these trays were a bit bigger so I could use them for my preschool activities. Paper of a standard size does not fit flat on them. Due to that, all my activities (patterns, block letters, etc. ) had to be trimmed down to fit on.
It was bought for our preschool classroom and so far it is working well, and the racks fit well.
I had in mind to use these trays to hold lunches for my children at school, but these trays are smaller than a school lunch tray. I am using them to create montessori stations with my 3 year olds in my home preschool, and they are large enough and lightweight so he can handle them.
Using these trays keeps your table clean and the mess off. Most often we use them for play doh, but we have also used it for arts and crafts. Future orders will include more ice cream.
My knowledge of the other reviewer's plate size doesn't extend to the plate size used by him. If you want to keep your food from rocking back and forth, these trays cannot support a full size plate. I am not too concerned about the trays themselves.
