No reason seems to exist for not doing so. Some artists used dammar varnish to mix with their oil colors in the classic era. If you are happy with the results you get, I would suggest trying it on another area of the same type of surface. As this dammar varnish requires a long time to dry, I prefer Lefranc & Henkel in its place I would use the Bourgoise Harlem Siccative medium to mix with it (or use it alone) or to replace it with retouch varnish after the painting is touch dry and if not done in an impasto style.
This is intriguing. If you wanted to try it, I'd suggest you experiment a bit. A gallery or art store with artists working on the staff might be your best option. I have a lot to think about after reading this.
