A bit of smearing is inevitable. However, they aren't the same as regular oil pastels. Having them as a client is fun. You Tube has tutorials that you can check out. In order to see how colors are affected by water, I made a water swatch sheet. This is a nice watercolor that is easy to manipulate.
I couldn't be happier with this watercolor and it's a great addition to my collection. The consistency is similar to a crayon, but has a bit of This is how it looks wet (even with gesso and water). When we work with watercolor, we obtain this smoothness but it is still opaque and takes more layers to reach. You can still extend colored pencils on top of it, though it might be tricky. There is a creamy quality to it that makes it less fragile than I will be buying again if the price is right.
