One thing that many people are unaware of about pastels is that some of them can be harmful and cause cancer. Faber Castell claims that their products are made with SAFE pigments and that they comply with the ATSM - American Technical Standards for Microbiology. That's the initials, I believe. Inside a cardboard sleeve, the package was wrapped in plastic wrap. As a reminder, Faber Castell's higher-end pencils are always sealed and packaged in a box or sleeve. The pencils are a lot of fun to work with and blend beautifully. I already have the 120 Polychromos and 120 Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils, so I wanted to keep the color palette consistent so I could use two or three of the products in a single painting. The 60-color tin is their biggest set, but I think it's plenty for a set of pastel pencils, at least for me. They will not be used exclusively in my work, but they will be incorporated into it. If you can't find it on Amazon, I can tell you that Hyatt's has an official account with Faber Castell, so you can be sure you're getting genuine products. I'm sure Blicks and others have legitimate accounts as well, but it never hurts to call Faber Castells customer service because you don't want your art supplies to be counterfeit when you spend that kind of money on them. I've never received a counterfeit product from Amazon, which is why I continue to do business with them. Faber Castell Polychromos Pastels are going to be my next purchase. Their products are exceptional in terms of quality, safety, and value. They also provide light fastness ratings on all of their pencils, which can make a big difference when it comes to hanging or selling your work.
Faber-Castell is one of my favorite brands. These are Castel products, which is why I chose them, but I'll be honest and say that they don't blend well together. I have a small tin of Stabilo Chalk in my possession. I love pastel pencils and how well they blend, so I was hoping this product would do the same. ***However, after doing some research (on Blick), I discovered that the Faber Castel is not listed as being harmful to your health, whereas the Stabilo CarbOthello Chalk is. It's possible that pastels are the answer.
I prefer the natural matte finish of the pastels because they are much easier to blend. I use a variety of sizes of blending stumps and precision tip cotton swabs to achieve the effects I want with these pastel pencils, which are firmer than the Derwents, which I also like. Because of the residue, pastels are more messy, but if I make a mistake, the medium is easily erased. I'm a big fan of Faber-Castell's Faber-C To clean up my work, I used a Castell pencil eraser with a brush. When compared to the 72 or 120 colors offered by other types, 60 colors may not seem like much, but when you consider how easy it is to blend them, the possibilities are endless. I used an electric sharpener to sharpen some of my pastel pencils, and there were no broken points. Overall, I am very pleased with the color quality and vibrancy.
Castell. The business has a great reputation and a dedicated following. I can see why now that I've bought them and used them on a few drawings. These are high-quality pastel pencils that can be used in a professional setting. br>br>These are amazing; the colors are so vibrant and rich. Each color can produce a full range of tones, from pale wispy tones to bold, striking color, by varying the amount of pressure used when drawing. When dry, they blend beautifully, and when combined with mineral spirits and a blending stump, they blend almost magically. br>br>My only regret is that I didn't look around long enough to see if they sold a larger set with a wider color range. Oh well. Perhaps after the holidays.
I enjoy working with pastels because they can be used at a very fine point and still smudge or layer well. On black drawing paper, they look fantastic. I ran out of a lot of the colors I usually use, so instead of buying them separately, I decided to get the whole set. It included some colors that are difficult to come by in my local art store, which was a pleasant surprise. I can't speak to the overall lightfastness, but I can say that I've had some of my photographs for several years and they still appear bright.
Othello. So- I recently bought this lovely set to add some variety to my life. I'm thrilled to report that they're fantastic! I adore them. They are easy to apply and blend with other pastels. allowing me to use all of my pastels in creative ways! On the majority of things, I also use pan pastel as a base. So- All of these complement each other nicely. HOWEVER, THIS SET- YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE DISAPPOINTED!.
My pencils arrived quickly and in perfect condition; I like the sturdy tin, but the two plastic holders are flimsy. There is a nice variety of colors in this set, and they blend well. When sharpening, I've never experienced any breakage. I sharpen my pencils with a small sharpener made of plastic. My purchase has been a pleasant experience for me.
Jason Morgan, a professional wildlife artist and teacher, recommends this product. I also have CarbOthello (which I like) because the colors are unique enough to make it worthwhile if you are serious about your art, and they aren't so soft that they crumble. They aren't as waxy as colored pencils, so they blend better and can take multiple layers with the right paper, in my opinion. Pastelmat or Clair Fontaine 400 to 600 is the best paper for this project. For more information, see Jason Morgan's free YouTube video on the advantages and disadvantages of various supplies.
