The cradle wrap of 16" can be used on a cardboard box or the board of about 1/4" thick can be used.
A white board was used for me.
The best way I have found so far is that I cannot use scratchboard. so sorry! The application I plan to use it for is heat blasting. It's probably not the one you're seeking.

When using hot press illustration board for my finished artworks, I used to prefer doing so, however, now that I've learned that this clayboard is difficult to use, I find it more difficult to use this board.
Pros:
- The preservation of archival images in a digital format. The long-term performance and durability of my art on this board are nice, as it can never be replaced.
- Pull out the pipette. because when you scratch on paper or on an ink or watercolor with an exacto knife, you're able to reveal more sharp whites than when you scratch with water. I enjoyed the smooth surface on this carpet.
- It is sturdy. My classes and work are not at risk if I take this safety method.
- It has no resistance to any sort of water. There is no issue stretching paper on watercolor and gouache work. Using illustration board for many years, larger pieces can sometimes begin to bend, if you don't secure it in place and use more rigid material rather than stretched.
- It is so easy to peel and cut from gouache. A brilliant color effect is a stunning sight.
Cons: The process by which an application gets turned down has been described by -. As a pencil sits on the surface, scratching it leaves a stain.
- Growing amounts of layers mean the Gouache dries more slowly than it normally would, though it doesn't drop as quickly as my favorite dish.
- Your computer will ask you if you'd like to see yellow if you scanned it. It is an extremely easy and simple photoshop fix, but I feel that this should be brought up.
These clayboard panels are beautiful. tried out these panels for the first time on my tiny size so I decided it would be a good purchase. These are the ones I love. While they are relatively smooth, they have a bit of a texture to them. With paint, you can create beautiful colors. Canvas does not work as well as these panels. The painted panels I used were displayed with front loading plastic frames I purchased here on Amazon. You can hang it on the wall using this piece since it finishes the panel look. Frame panels are compatible with each other. You can buy this good item as an artists' item of high quality.
There is no messing about costs or difficulty in creating watercolor in this product. I highly recommend it. This clay board is highly versatile and forgiving, yet it is sturdy and strong. It seems the Amazon brand of Ampersand provides the best value and great quality. I have used various sized bowls and I have found that amazon provides good values. Clayboard sold at Amazon is wrapped in wrapping to protect it from chips easily and protect the corners at the edges.
This was the gift my granddaughter received for an art project.
It is such an excellent clay product. paints, oils and acrylics as well as pencil sketches and ballpoint pen drawings. Although I do not experience watercolors yet.
With excellent pastel substrate, such as a white chocolate one, you will create amazing work of soft and hard pastels on one of the best light backgrounds.

Using paint, one can draw fine lines on this surface. Having a smooth surface makes my painting much more enjoyable since I'm only trained in the medium.
