I'm not sure what the point of having a thick board is, and can you paint the sides?

I suppose you could paint the sides of the board. The side's actual measurement is approximately 1/16 inch. Because it is mounted to a board, it is thicker than watercolor paper, but it has the advantage of being able to be used without support for plein air painting or easily framed art. The most effective method for painting with watercolor and gouache

Every week, I employ a few of these. They're the best surface for watercolor and/or gouache painting. The surface allows for reworking, and the use of panel rather than paper gives the painting a finished look similar to that of an acrylic or oil painting. The surface makes using a subtraction technique with watercolor a near-perfect experience - This is the perfect product and surface for restoring black watercolor to its original color.

I really like this company's other products, but this? I'm at a loss for words. So far, the only advantage is that once you've made a big mess, you can wash the water color pigment off and start over. I'm going to give it my best shot.

5x7 Aquabord by Ampersand

I used to draw small cartoons and used to paint them. I'd like to give my grandchildren some gifts. It was a lot of fun, and the end result was exactly what we needed. The mediums used were watercolor and acrylic. Exactly what I needed for the job. Bubble envelopes make it simple to mail. They were a big hit with the youngsters.
