Questions & Answers

Is it possible to remove the drawer separators?

They're only lightly glued, and a tug with pliers will easily remove them. I took out all of mine and now have the freedom to make changes as needed. There are nine drawers in total.

Is the wood for this unfinished or do I need to sand it?

It's unfinished, but it's not necessary to sand it. It isn't real wood in the sense of a nice, strong, and durable table. In comparison to solid wood, it is made of a light, thin material that is easily broken. The drawers don't move when you open them. Gliding drawers, for example, glide effortlessly out. However, only one of the drawers is deep enough. stacked half-rows of colored pencils (it was designed for only one row so they wouldn't catch when sliding the drawer in and out). The only real piece of wood, in my opinion, is the handle on the front of the drawers. It could be lightly sanded on the edges before being stained or painted, but it doesn't "need" anything; it's ready to use right away. Unless you want it to blend in with the rest of the decor in the room. It's ideal for storing art materials.br> Colored pencils, pens, markers, oil pastels, and chalks are some of the items I keep in mine. I've got about six of them stacked up. You shouldn't put anything heavy on top of these. br>Each big section of one drawer holds about 10 colored pencils, and the smaller center section holds 4 to 5, for a total of 44 to 45 colored pencils per drawer. br>I hope that this information is useful.

Is the depth of the drawers important? Would gel pens fit in there?

Gel pens, as well as other pencils, pens, and markers, are among the items I keep in mine. However, some pens and markers have a clip on the top, which would make the pens too thick; simply turn the pens so the clip is to one side, rather than straight up.

Is this a suitable storage unit for DMC embroidery floss? I'm picturing the skeins laid out flat and side by side. ?

That's something I hadn't considered, but it would work for embroidery floss storage. I'll most likely order another for my wife's floss collection.

It's fantastic, but it could be even better
4/5

These drawers are fantastic for keeping art pencils organized. The only issue I have with them is that, as other reviewers have mentioned, the drawers pull each other out, so when you try to open one, they all come out. Making a jig out of popsicle sticks to shim up around the drawer pull to give it a flat surface before running it through a table saw to shave off that little bit of excess on the top of the drawer faces was the solution I came up with. It worked perfectly, and I discovered that most of the sets I bought only required this for the very bottom drawer. I have eight of these, and they're all in perfect working order right now. All of my fingers are still attached to my body. br>br>I like how these look in my office and how easy they make it to find things. The dividers were simple to remove for a more personalized drawer - They're also simple to put back in if you change your mind after they've been taken out. The last two photos show the drawers shimmed up with popsicle sticks and ready to be run through the saw, while the first four photos show the drawers fitting a wide range of items. I can even fit the entire Derwent pencil tin in there now that the dividers have been removed - Despite this, the drawers are shallow enough to ensure that no space is wasted. These guys make me very happy!.

Also works well with jewelry
5/5

I originally ordered it for another purpose, but I changed my mind- This is AMAZING for jewelry! I had the 32-inch TV already. I got the compartment plastic liners you see in the photo from a store supply warehouse, which is great because I like having "everything in its place. " " I was worried about drawers after reading reviews, but they work fine; here's a link to black plastic liners similar to mine. On Amazon, you can find flocked ones as well as larger sets for a better price.

This drawer has allowed me to rediscover the joy and relaxation of coloring! Updated on September 14, 2016: I recently received my second drawer unit and had some drawer issues, which I was able to resolve by swapping some of the drawers from my first unit, which solved the problem
5/5

I've also added a few more photos and a video of the two drawers in action. I didn't receive the foam padding inserts on either unit, but I came up with a workaround. Overall, I'm still pleased with this unit, and it has greatly aided in the organization of my drawing supplies. Original Post:br>I'm glad I came across this storage unit! Hundreds of colored pencils, markers, gel pens, and other art supplies have accumulated in my collection! I was tired of looking for a color in a large, bulky drawer (which is why I now have so many pencils), and it was robbing me of the pleasure of coloring. I immediately put it to use as soon as it arrived! All of my specialty and standard colors are now readily available, and they're simple to obtain, use, and replace! It's the perfect size for my desk and takes up very little room. Furthermore, the drawers open completely, allowing me to keep the drawer and its contents close to my work area! I'm going to order another drawer for my markers, and even though I haven't put it to use yet, I can already tell that sorting everything into the drawers will make it very easy to remove/replace the utensils with minimal effort, not to mention find the color without digging! It's nice to come across something that makes a hobby more enjoyable and relaxing every now and then. I believe it is safe to say that this unit is an excellent match for the requirements! br>br>While I was deciding between the single, triple, and quad drawer options, many reviews mentioned that the build quality was lacking; however, the unit I received is in excellent condition, all of the drawers close securely, and it sits flat on my desk surface. The dividers aren't removable; mine are glued in place, but that wasn't a big deal to me, and it actually made some of the orientation easier, as it kept certain categories from blending into others. br>br>From what I can tell, the wood isn't stained, and I'm thinking of painting it or adding custom drawings to it one day. br>br>Overall, I am very pleased with this unit, and I am confident that I will order more in the future! I'm thinking about giving some away as gifts to friends!.

Colored pencils should be stored in this case
5/5

For storing my colored pencils, I adore this box! It holds all of my Faber Castell Polychromos in 120 count as well as my Faber Castell water color pencils in 36 count. While working with your art supplies, you can easily remove the drawers/trays or simply leave them inside the cabinet for easy access. That's exactly what I'm good at. When you first opened the doors, they were a little tight, but the more you opened them, the more comfortable they became. The more you close them, the less difficult it is to open them again. They must be closed. This item is typically sold as a pastel box, but it also works well with colored pencils. I used to keep my pencils in cups, but I discovered that doing so eventually gave them a bad name. Remove the numbers from the pencils (which can make following along with a tutorial difficult). This is a product that I would strongly recommend to anyone who wants to keep their art supplies in good condition. Aside from that, this box is quite appealing!.

There are a few drawbacks, but it is still a very useful tool
4/5

Apparently, the wood is unfinished, since people claim that it has an unformed appearance and that the pencil can barely adhere to the glossy appearance. I unexpectedly discovered that it has a very thin finish when I labelled it, I noticed that the pencil sticks to pretty much the black ink finish. Even after doing this, I still have 3/4 of a drawer leftbr>br>I love it; it's one of the nicest things available for pencil storage, and the top has strips of wood that raise my laptop off of it, so it doubles as a laptop stand and keeps it from overheating.
