I have been able to confirm with Singer that the 50003 will lock in place and retract when you push the retractable button on the back of the product.
In short, yes. Located on one side of the tape is inches, while on the other side is centimeters.
Once the pull is complete, measurements begin I think it would be more accurate to use the tab.

Singer offered me this as a backup and so I wanted to see what it could do. It's totally spoilt me to have a Clover tape measure. Whenever I listen to the Singer, I hear that annoying "click". It's hard for me to put into words what it is. As you pull the tape, the tape will either stop where it stops or keep coming back until it stops. In comparison, the Clover stops automatically when you stop pulling, at the exact moment you stop, rather than at random Just feeling like it'll break and I'll be left with a pink paperweight seems rather dramatic to me. There's no doubt only because I have become using this type of sewing machine to sew and the like that I have become accustomed to the tape cutting tool used for construction and whatnot.
It seems like I'm a bit obsessed with tape measures these days. My life seems to revolve around having one on hand. It's either the old fashioned wooden kind that you have to unfold, or the standard carpenters' ones, and my most recent acquisition is the textile tape measures that don't retract and just flop around like lazy snakes. You can buy it for a low price! My only regret is not getting this years ago. I will be ordering more soon.
