As a professional picture framer, I work with all kinds of pictures. If I were to recommend using this edge to cut together "window mats" or to use a blade against, it would be to cut against as well. If you want your windows to look perfect, you need a machine (or hand-held device) that holds a blade at a 45 degree angle. In any case- Using this ruler, you can make accurate guides for cutting your mats according to how much it is and the size. If you use plastic or aluminum tools, do not cut against them, as they wear down too fast- If your straight edge stays straight for long, it won't stay straight. Lastly, I would like to say Make sure you mark your guide lines with an easy-to-use tool like this If you use an eraser, it will be easier to erase)
I like to position the ruler on the edge of my cutting mat so that I have a total of 24" to cut fabric strips. The lip of the ruler is located on the short end above the 24" line. I gain extra stability thanks to it. Thanks for reading. I hope this was helpful.
You can cut the fabric straight with it since it is transparent, but it also has markings for laying on the fabric.
There is a label that says "Made in the U.S." on the ruler. I think this ruler is excellent The price was well worth it.

First, I bought it at a quilt shop. I DO NOT recommend purchasing this item! Picture speaks a thousand words please see the attached image for the defect. It's the second O'Lipfa that I have purchased and both have been as described. They ordered one from a quilt shop and tried to make it square, while the other was ordered It wasn't replied to (of course) after I sent the pic and information to the manufacturer.
The top lip did not line up perfectly with the ruler when it arrived. There are about 30 degrees difference between the two. The second one was off by about 15 degrees too because it was sent directly from the manufacturer. When the top lip is set at 90 degrees, the top lip of the device can be used as designed. I am disappointed.
This is a great idea. This was not a good This lip on the edge of the ruler is supposed to catch on the edge of the table or cutting mat while it is being used, giving the ruler more stability during use. It would be great if you could do that. The lip itself would be straight if it were. As the lip on the ruler I received is slanted, when it is hooked onto the table edge as it should be, it sits in an awkward position. With a crooked ruler, it isn't so easy to make a straight cut. If I could make the trip again, I would, but it isn't worth the trouble.
It was made by someone with a bad attitude. It is extremely difficult for me to speak due to the crookedness of my lip. If I align the lip of the ruler with the edge of my cutting mat (the cutting mat is not out of position) and align the ruler on my fabric, the ruler is off by an 1/8" at the top, so I really need to hold the ruler tightly to avoid slipping off. In the end, I may donate this to the Goodwill, hoping that an inexperienced quilter will not get it and wonder why their blocks don't match. The last ruler I used failed miserably because only rulers with lips work for me, and they are always from O'Lipfa.
A long time ago, I purchased one of these lip edge rulers to replace one I had been using for more than two decades I contacted the manufacturer requesting a replacement. The new one was out of alignment so I asked to exchange it. I have the same problem. It is true that the company has been good about replacing or refunding the product in the return process, but the ruler is extremely poor quality. It is a shame that this company, on which I relied when I was learning how to quilt, has closed its doors!.
This ruler is fantastic, but I discovered (too late to exchange) that the small lip on the underside was not even, causing the ruler to lie at an angle as opposed to straight. If my husband can file the lip so that it's uniform, I plan on seeing what the effects might be, but I'm not sure how well the material will hold up. It was a huge.
It was purchased to replace one I inherited from my mother 17 years ago(hers lasted at least 10 years). It finally developed some defects along the cutting edge (my fault really as I was new to rotary cutters and sometimes No surprise there. truly delighted to have this as it fits perfectly with the edge of the cutting mat and allows the ruler to stay straight when I cut, and given the previous ones longevity, maybe I will pass it on to my daughter (I intend to make this a resource for rotary cutter usage).
A lip edge ruler from O'LIPFA has been in my possession for many years and I decided to upgrade. This is not a As we are dealing with a ruler that is off by half an inch at the top, there is no way to use it. This was a very disappointing experience.
