The type of awl you expect is not the type you get. The tip of the handle to the end of the handle may be 4 inches long. That's not at all what I expected. It is not as good for fine work as it could be.

The product can without a shadow of a doubt be described as My collection of scratch awls includes many such tools, and this is one I have owned in the past. I have owned several awls and I think this one is the most impressive. The fact this knife has a steel build and an extremely well crafted point I have used it as one of the small points in the past. It has a very comfortable fit along with a rustic raw wood look, making it a perfect addition to leather working aesthetics. As a matter of fact, it stands out against all of the competitors because of its straight shaft. In most cases, when I have purchased other awls, they have never been straight. Usually, the shafts are bent or twisted in some way. As far as AWL and AWL are concerned, this tool gets a 10/10.
I had used the awl for just under two weeks when it broke off from the handle. During a stitching session, the stupid thing just popped out of my pocket while I was working. Normally I'm okay with Tandy products, but this one is a complete and utter waste of time. This is the first time I have written a negative review for an Amazon product, and I have been an Amazon customer for over a decade. In order to save you money and headache, I have given myself a headache so that you do not have to.
Using this little awl is an especially convenient way of scratching patterns into In the event that you need to punch some holes into the leather (it won't pierce any thicker leather), it is very sharp and can be pierced very easily. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase, and the quality of the item is excellent. It is one of those items that I would buy again if necessary.
There's not much weight to this scratch awl, but it scratches fine, and that's all I need. I think it's a somewhat small gift, about 2" in diameter and 2" in height. You don't get an exotic tool for $80, but you get an item that fits your needs at a reasonable.
I found it to be much smaller and more cheaply made than expected. In the image, ferrules were brass but the actual ferrules were sheet steel. For its intended use, it may be fine, but keep in mind that it will not make larger holes than threads.
The awl would not come out when I heated it with a torch, but after I did, it burned a hole large enough to fix the belt buckle.
What I expected wasn't what happened. The size of this is too It would be cheaper and more convenient to buy one from HD or Lowe's, both of which operate the same way.
It worked great for punching holes in leather wallets that I wanted to add studs to. The size of this tool has been criticized by some. I would prefer something slightly longer as this was perfect for my hands (female) and wallet project. It is smaller and shorter than most, but I wouldn't have wanted anything else.
