Thank you so much for taking the time to contact me. The OD is set to a maximum of zero. 30" (0. 76cm).
Yes, you can lightly tap it to mark the spot where you want to drill.
It is not capable of punching holes. It isn't made to punch holes in anything. This isn't the time to poke holes in it. It's a scribe that's used for scribing and marking steel and aluminum, particularly sheet metal, but not exclusively. If you need to mark punches, please purchase a center punch.
It's sharp, and the tip tapers to a very small point, but I'd start with leatherworking tools because I've only used it to mark metal.

This awl is durable, easy to use, and effective. So far, I've only used it with a made in the USA hammer (Vaughan) and pliers (SOG) for leather work. When gripped around the awl, the pliers' teeth left no marks, and the hammer was the one who got beaten up. I don't mind if the hammer's head is a little scuffed, and in the end, I'm pleased with this awl purchase because it has proven to be true Made in USA quality.
This is a small tool, but if that's the size you need, it's the tool for you. It's well-made and well-balanced.
It's difficult, to say the least. I've accidentally abused it a couple of times and observed: nothing. There are no creases or scuffs. The price was well worth it.
I didn't read the specifications, so maybe there aren't any, but they're only about 2" long and weigh well under an oz.
It performs admirably. It's extremely small. On metal, I use it as a pencil.
It's a must-have tool for anyone who works with their hands! This is what I use to mark stainless steel so that I can drill holes in it.
Excellent resource.
