How do these get cleaned and dried by a machine?

The answer is that I'm not sure. Even if I had a dryer, I would not put leather in it Perhaps a cold wash is in order. It is not an issue for me since I am using it to repair a car seat.

The suede is thick and nice. I may not be able to wear that sweater because it is too thick. I'm not sure if they can be washed. It's better to wear a leather jacket with this.

It is a very dark grey color

In the listing, there is a picture of light gray. Upon receipt of the item, it is very dark gray in color. The order I placed did not meet my needs.
