Questions & Answers

Is it a fine, medium, or coarse grain?

The Lyman Tufnut Plus Relaoding Media is a 12/20 grit, just like the rest of the Corncob and Tufnut medias. It'll be referred to as "medium."

What kind of polishing medium should I use for my rocks?

Walnut has a tough exterior that polishes well. Make use of a colorless medium.

My sandblaster can handle up to 46-pounds of sand. A media with a grit of 100. What exactly does this stuff have in terms of "grit"? It doesn't say on the packaging that I'm blown away. ?

As you are aware, the product is not designed for sandblasting and contains a compound that is excellent for tumbling. The grit content, on the other hand, varies, and the additives may cause respiratory issues. I'm not sure I'd use it for blasting as is, but I think a version without the rouge would be worth a shot.

Is it tough enough to get rid of minor corrosion on rifle brass?

It all depends on how long the marks have been there and how deeply they penetrate the brass's surface. br>Walnut shell cleaning medium is excellent for cleaning and polishing cases on both the inside and outside. Adding liquid car polish to the walnut medium will help remove many surface blemishes and leave the brass shiny and slick, reducing frictional forces in both the reloading press and the gun. br>I hope that this information is useful.

This does not appear to be treated, as far as I can tell
3/5

I've seen photos and videos of this product in action, and the red color is quite noticeable. Plain walnut shell appears to be what I received. I could have gotten plain walnut shell for a cheaper price somewhere else. I'm going to put it in my tumbler and run it for a while to see if any red color or dust comes out of it, but I'm not optimistic. br>br>I placed a separate order for red rouge, which I will mix in with this to salvage it in the worst-case scenario. br>br>After logging back in and reading the reviews, I don't believe this is a one-of-a-kind issue. I'm not sure how they can "forget" to treat their media in such a way that so many people are affected. To me, it screams bait and switch, and I feel like I've been duped. Is this a forgery or a clone of the original? Is this a genuine Lyman message? Unless someone contacts me to make things right, this will be my last dealings with Lyman. My walnut media and tumblers will come from somewhere else.

It was dusty and filthy
3/5

This is some of the worst stuff I've ever seen. After you've used this to clean your brass, you'll need to clean it again. This is because the brass is covered in a thick layer of dirty dust. It's so bad that if you don't clean it off, it'll build up on the dies in a matter of rounds if you don't. Before I switch to my good media that actually works and doesn't leave dust everywhere, I'm going to use this to clean junk range pick up brass. It's supposed to be treated, but I have no idea if it is. It is extremely difficult to polish. It does a good job of removing the carbon, but it replaces it with walnut dust, which I strongly advise against. Go to the pet store and pick up some lizard litter, as well as some car polish. It'll be far superior and less expensive.

The Red Stuff isn't what you're looking for
4/5

If you think you're getting the old Red media, think again; it used to work great, but Lyman appears to have stopped producing it, and this is the replacement. It works well, but not quite as well as the untreated walnut, but it's a lot better. I like the product, but I wish they would bring the red stuff back.

Packaging is of poor quality! There was nothing to keep the plastic container from rolling around in the shipping box because it was too big
3/5

The lid then came loose, spilling a large amount of cleaning media. The tape that ran across the bottom of the cardboard box did not completely cover the seam, and some of it spilled out onto the floor. If the shipping time had been longer, a lot more media would have gotten out. There was at least a gallon of media in the bottom of the box, with much of it spilling out onto the filthy floor. br>br>A piece of manufacturer-supplied tape across the plastic container lid may have prevented the lid from coming off due to the poor shipping container. br>br>The walnut media is fine, but I wanted it all in the container, not on the dirty floor.

It's unique, but it's enjoyable nonetheless
5/5

This is a medium that I've been using for a long time. When I opened the box this time, I noticed the color wasn't right. After reading the reviews, I thought to myself, "Oh no, this is going to be terrible. " But I gave it a shot anyway, and it appears to be just as good as it has always been. Perhaps a tad less vibrant. I don't think it's enough to make me want to switch to something else. One of the most noticeable differences in the new formula is the smaller ground walnut, which makes it much easier to remove from the flash hole. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews. People, it appears to me, do not like change. I included a photo of my brass after it had been used. You are the one who makes the decision.

That's exactly what it's for
5/5

That's exactly what it's for. This item is walnut shell media with jewelers rouge (iron oxide) embedded in it. It polishes brass cartridge cases to a brilliant sheen, but many customers complain about the dust and residue it leaves behind. To catch dust and residue (which can be toxic if you're tumbling fired ammo brass), place used dryer sheets in the tumbler bowl. You can also use paper towels for this. I use the dryer sheets in their entirety to reduce the number of pieces I have to dispose of. Another piece of advice: Combine this product with untreated corn cobs and walnut media in a mixing bowl. It greatly improves their efficiency! For the next run, leave the residue in the bowl. That red residue was yours to pay for - It's a one-of-a-kind substance! For my vibratory tumbler, I have several bowls, so I always have a clean one on hand. This is a product that you do not need to purchase on a regular basis. In fact, I recommend mixing it with untreated media so that it can last several tumbling cycles before needing to be replaced.

For reloading ammo, this is a must-have! After three hours of tumble time, my brass was ready to prep without contaminating my reloading dies
5/5

br>After the second tumble with the Lyman Walnut media, my brass appeared to be brand new, with clean primer pockets and no trace of case lube. On my next order, I'm going to order a larger container so that I always have this on hand. This is an excellent item.

Purchase a tub
5/5

This is the most effective case cleaning and polishing media available. I purchased a three-pound jar with a pop-open screw-on lid. The amazing Amazon order puller stuffed a huge box into it, eh? So it un- screwed into the USPS truck and popped in. It had no negative impact on the media. I saved almost all of it and am currently cleaning brass with it. I'll get the tub next time, right?.
