If that works, I'd say it's a good idea. Only a small issue might occur if after a while the foam moves back into place. You would then have to re-place it. As for repositioning the foam, it would take one or two minutes to do so, so if it does not bother you to have to do it occasionally, placing it under your cushion might be sufficient.
Due to the fact that this product is rolled up by the company, the box is not excessively large. It is possible to do 3by3.
There is no pilling, and it holds its shape well. It's used for oversized chairs in the playroom, so kids can sit in them comfortably.
Considering its thickness, I would say that it has enough substance by itself.

The above is pretty much why I had to make the seating foam, but I will continue. It didn't take long for this stupid couch to be near crippling after only an hour of watching television. The foam was placed right on top of the cushions and then I put a sheet over top of them (my family doesn't care for nice things, so I have to cover them so I can wash them once a week or so). In any case, after recovering from surgery last month I actually chose to recuperate on this couch instead of the bed because of its comfort. The difference is amazing! It may be possible for me to replace the foam at the bottoms of the cushions, but that doesn't seem.
The cushion I bought was sagging, so I bought this to fix it. As the foam inside the cushions had compressed over time and the fabric stretched, the cushions had become hollow. Using two pieces of foam cut to the same size as the cushions (26x26), I inserted them underneath the original foam. After they were filled back up with foam, they looked and felt like new. The soft underside has more appeal for me than the hard one I purchased cushion supports since they were cheaper and I had some leftover.

I found that the foam was discolored when I opened the box, but not to worry. The quality was still very good.
