If you go to a builder's store (Menards, Home Depot,etc), they have cheap kits. You can either return it or open it and take a picture of it if you have read the instructions.

By drilling out the "female" portion using a drill bit slightly larger than the rivet ID, I manage to separate the snap from the rivet. When they are separated like that, they come apart really easily.

(The screws inserted into the studs) were already mounted on the boat. Earlier today, I installed female snaps on a tarp to replace broken/missing snaps (there were a lot). Because I purchased a tool from Amazon, I didn't have to remove all of the cover. It is possible to purchase a super expensive $132 tool and a much less expensive tool (such as Neither one worked better than the other. It is no exaggeration to say that these snaps have held up during some serious thunderstorms and high winds, along with lots of rain.
My first few try-outs were a mess until I figured out what I was supposed to do and how. In my opinion, people who leave bad reviews are usually not very talented and give up way It works well. I installed a cover on one side and the other one underneath.

In a nutshell, The Kit has everything I needed to put snaps on a boat cover made from an old swimming pool, saving me $400, and it took no time at all to make a waterproof cover that you can drive with and it won't blow away.
I was very pleased with this product. It was easy to install and looks really good We used this to cover our screened in porch and put it on thick plastic to keep the snow and cold out during the fall and winter months.
They go on easily and fit snugly, just make sure you don't bang them too hard when installing. They're holding up very well in the salt air and water on our cushions.
In order to keep rain from coming in, we covered the inside of our Tiki bar. Velcro didn't work (we tried it) and we resorted to squeeze clamps, but it was difficult to put on and take I love how easy it is to use these snaps! The problem is. As they like to crush you, be careful how hard you hit them and where you hit them.
