For a dog, probably not. The issue would be with how the snap is attached to the fabric, not with the snap itself. with the use of thread It would be chewed to a pulp by my dog.
It is necessary to sew them on. I secure it with a dab of glue before sewing up and down through the holes.

They have just the right amount of grip while remaining simple to remove. I've used these on non-closable sweaters, cardigans, jackets, and dusters. I have a collection of vintage buttons, and with the help of these snaps, I will be able to use them more frequently. If you want to use buttons, sew them on first, then sew on your snaps as usual. Last year, I completed several of these projects, and I can assure you that the snaps are machine and dryer safe. The finish is durable, and I haven't noticed any discoloration. I'm so glad I found these on Amazon because they're a lot less expensive than buying them from a fabric store! Thank you, Amazon!.
I had assumed that there was only one side. I'd like to make a correction to a previous review of this product: all of the pieces arrived, and they were stunning snaps. Because each snap was snapped together prior to delivery, I initially assumed that only one side of the snap had arrived. Although it appeared that only one side of the snap was delivered, both sides were actually delivered.
Snaps were used to secure clothing decades ago. Instead of buttons, I'm using snaps to replace the buttons on my home-made clothing. The size is ideal.
I bought this to sew on a velcro dog coat. I was concerned that they were too tight, but they've held up well, even after being washed. They've held up exceptionally well, especially considering I have a Jack Russell. I only need three (3), but I'll keep them just in case I need them for something else.
The snaps are well-made and functional, but I should have done more research on the size before ordering; I ordered the 5/8" and expected them to be much smaller than they are. I don; I don't think I'll be able to use them for the project I wanted to do with them. Nonetheless, I'll save them for later.
I needed a closure for a coat, and this was perfect. That's nice because it doesn't show, and it's a good size.
In comparison to name brands, these snaps were a great deal. They snap and unsnap easily, but they stay snapped once they've been snapped.
They're of good quality and snap securely but easily. They also have a pleasant appearance.
