How Our Score Is Calculated

Product Description

Any felting project will fit in this 10" x 8" x 1" workspace.
100% natural undyed pure wool felt sourced from Central America. Wool sourced from Central America. The color is a neutral gray, but due to the nature of the product, it may vary slightly from the image.
Using heat, moisture, and pressure, this pad was wet felted by a machine. This procedure ensures that a felting pad has the ideal density and durability.
Unlike loosely felted pads, burlap bags, or foam cushions, this pad's density helps to prevent fibers from becoming deeply embedded.

Questions & Answers

Where does it come from?

In the United States, according to my understanding, , with Central American sheep providing the wool.

Is it possible to use a multi-needle tool on this mat?

I'm not sure why one couldn't do it; I'm new to felting and, despite having a multi-purpose needle, I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up. I've never used a needle tool before. So far, I've only experimented with and felt soaps with a single needle!

What is the best way to get rid of stray wool strands?

The wool pad is cleaned off with the edge of a pair of scissors. Others have suggested using tape or a lint roller, but I don't believe these methods are as effective as scraping with scissors at removing the wool.

PURCHASE IS NOT RECOMMENDED
3/5

In the pad, there is a significant amount of vegetable matter! Based on the reviews, I decided to buy this pad. This pad is one of the most expensive (if not the most expensive) of the numerous needle felting pad options available. I made the mistake of assuming that a high price equated to a high level of quality. A HUGE MISTAKE. br>There is a significant amount of coarse vegetable matter (VM) felted into and on top of this pad. Right out of the box, it appears to have been dropped on a barn floor with grass stuck to it. Upon closer inspection, the waste matter is clearly visible inside the layers of the mat, as well as deep in the middle. br>br>For a felting mat, this is totally unacceptable. It appears that they simply pressed unwashed wool into a pad using whatever they could find. Maybe it's because they sell needles, and they want you to break them (and thus need to buy more) when you hit a rough patch of grass? br>br>I would have returned it right away if the class demo I bought it for didn't require me to use it. And I put it to good use! AS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT TO AVOID PURCHASING. I included a photo of this pad after I cleaned it for an hour! br>br>Edit 8/16/19br>I now see that the manufacturer has rewritten their description, adding information such as "due to the nature of this product, a small amount of vegetable matter will be present on the pad, and this is a normal and unavoidable byproduct of natural wool. " "br>Um, no! This pad is marketed as a first-rate, high-quality pad made of Premium Wool. Coarse VM is not present in premium quality First Choice wool. Shame on the sellers who appear to be trying to deceive customers by claiming that VM is unavoidable when it can (and must!) be avoided. Before pressing the wool batt, make sure it's completely removed!.

I really wanted to like this because it was dense and hard
3/5

This sounded perfect because I'm tired of foam felting surfaces, but it's so dense that felting needles can't even penetrate it. It's like trying to feel your way through a phone book! In the first five minutes of felting with it, I even bent my needle. Is this how I'm supposed to use it?.

Very good quality
5/5

Years ago, I began needle felting. I've experimented with a variety of pads. br>What a fantastic pad! It's 1" thick, which is a good thing. I've read a lot of negative feedback and complaints about vegetable matter. br>br>I ran my hand over every square inch, and there was exactly one 1/4" piece of vegetable matter that I could easily extract with my fingernail. I doubt I would have noticed it if it hadn't been for the fact that I had been reading reviews. br>br>Because some pads are made of burlap (which can be quite hairy), a small amount of vegetable matter/fiber isn't an issue. Burlap is made from the skin of the jute or sisal plant, and the fibers are- What do you think? matter derived from plants br>Because vegetable matter does not felt, it is easy to remove with tweezers if it is found in your mat or project. br>Vegetable matter is, in my opinion, a non-food item. issue. br>br>I have a few Wool Buddies that I like, but this pad is better in my opinion, and it's comparable in price for a similar size. I like that it's level, though that may change with frequent use. br>I needed a bigger pad to needle felt flat background pieces. This needle felting pad comes highly recommended by me.

Needle Felting is a breeze with this fabric! I bought a needle felting tray with a black foam pad from Hobby Lobby
5/5

The foam began to disintegrate into my needle felting after only a few projects. I knew I'd have to go with something more durable. I ordered this wool pad from Desert Breeze, and it fit PERFECTLY into the same tray I'd purchased previously. That was a nice little extra. br>br>I am very pleased with this wool needle felting pad, as well as the felting needles I purchased from this company. Wonderful products!.

I am extremely dissatisfied with this purchase
3/5

This felting pad contains far too many natural fibers, which embed themselves in your project no matter how lightly you felt into it. I'm very disappointed in you. I was also interested in trying it because of the positive reviews. Others may not be as concerned as I am about fibers becoming entangled in their work, but I am. It takes far too long to remove items that do not belong. My Wool Buddy felting pad has made me a lot happier. Take a look at the pile of natural fibers that came right off the top of the pad with no effort, as well as the entire top layer of the pad itself. Then I considered felting the top of the pad to make it more dense in order to see if this would reduce the number of loose fibers. However, because it isn't thick enough, the needle penetrates it. This is a product that I would not recommend to a friend.

This is a fantastic needle felting pad
5/5

firm, firm, firm! [This post has been updated to include two new items. ] At the end of the review, there are some photos of D wool. ]br>br>This is a fantastic, long-form piece of writing. All-wool pad that will last a long time. Because it's so firm, it's ideal for sculptural needle felting, wool sculpting, and 3D needle felting. Because the needle doesn't go all the way through the pad, I don't end up felting my pieces in my usual foam pads. This dense natural wool pad is ideal for use as a protective pad. My needles don't go through or stick into them unless I purposefully push them down. As a result, felting is more concerned with the wool object than with pushing the wool into a pad. Because this is natural, there is some vm (vegetable matter), but I'm used to working with natural core wool that contains vm, so I enjoy seeing it and knowing that the wool has been minimally processed. I simply remove any bits I don't want stuck in it with tweezers (which isn't often). It took some time for me to adjust to such a firm felting pad, but I now enjoy how the needles barely penetrate my wool figures and 3D pieces while felting. This is a well-made pad that is both sturdy and long-lasting. br>br>In early 2021, I experimented with it instead of dense foam for my 2-year-old daughter's birthday party. Portraits of wool animals needle felted in D. It took some time to get used to, but by the end of my project, I actually preferred it to the softer foam pads! It made me want to stab more shallowly, resulting in fewer marks. It adheres well but peels off easily once the work is completed, and it doesn't break down while I'm felting dense areas, so it's extremely reusable (I'd get three portraits from foam, but after five on this, there's very little wear showing).
