That is not the case; it cannot be used for that purpose. Its purpose is to turn skeins or hanks into yarn cakes. Thank you for getting in touch.
It is determined by the yarn type. 400 yards of lace weight yarn weighs just under 2 ounces (enough for this winder to handle). 400 yards of DK yarn will weigh slightly more than 5 ounces (this winder should be able to handle it). 90 yards of super bulky yarn equals 5. 3 ounces (this winder can also handle it).
Mine is affixed to my work surface. The mechanism connecting the handle to the winder's base must have gear teeth that rotate like watch gears. That action, in any case, produces a noise. Because of this, I don't find it irritating. I'm the one who comes up with the ideas. My husband, on the other hand, makes fun of me for my wiggly toes. doo. As you whirl, the yarn may become tangled in the loop or knotted, but it's simple to untangle it and return to a steady, easy wind and whirl.
The base measures 4 1/2 inches in diameter, while the cylinder measures 1 inch in diameter.

br> I was able to wind an entire cake of size 3 (dk) yarn on it with no problem (5oz), and the cake wound up perfectly and did not fall apart or collapse in on itself when I removed it from the winder! This yarn winder is fantastic, and I'm looking forward to finally being able to organize my yarn stash! It's a must-have for any yarn craftsperson, crocheter, knitter, or other knitter!.
It's more than a desire. I don't have a lot of room in my apartment. Darn Good Yarn has been supplying me with yarn skeins. I absolutely adore their yarn! Regrettably, I spent as much time untangling the yarn as I did making my item out of it. This item arrived today, and I had a ball of yarn in my hands in minutes. The level of dissatisfaction was close to nil. And my yarn is looking better than it has in a long time. I felt compelled to write a review before beginning my scarf because I was so excited!.
I got a few things that I didn't have before! The winder, last but not least. It takes 0 minutes to put everything together. - 2 s All you have to do now is place the arm in its proper position. Clamps to my very thick living room table (looks like it could go even thicker), with some cushioning to protect the surface you're using. Doesn't move a millimeter when in use. It isn't the quietest thing on the planet, but it is adequate. This, along with a swift, was incredibly simple to use, and I wound three skeins on my first try, which would have taken me about two hours previously but only took me 15 minutes now. Love it!.
So, the first ball of yarn didn't turn out as well as we had hoped, so we tried again, and that was my first error! The second ball of yarn, on the other hand, was significantly superior! I completely forgot about the first rule: go slowly and maintain tension on the yarn! Although there is a learning curve, it was fairly simple to put together and use! Overall, I'm pleased with my yarn winder purchase. My errors were not caused by the winder, but rather by my failure to pay close enough attention to what I was doing! This is a winder I would recommend.
The rest appeared to be quite frail. It still appeared to be the sturdy item in the picture when I received it today. I put it together, clamped it to my table, and in just a few minutes, I made three cakes from skeins that were 4 oz or less. It wouldn't be able to handle anything larger, but none of them seem to do so as far as I can tell. The small package of goodies that comes with it contains items that I needed for my knitting and would have cost me money if I had purchased them separately. The yarn holder arm is good and stable, and it does not flop around as some other brands have. The only thing that worried me was that when you get it, you have to snap the spindle on it, and I had to use so much force that I was afraid it would break. So far, nothing has broken since I installed the spindle. This tool is definitely worth it for me because I have bad wrists.
I'm using a yarn winder for the first time. I got it after purchasing yarn that was constantly tangled and knotted throughout the skein (I will not purchase that yarn again). I used the yarn winder to rewind the 2nd skein when I needed it. It's wonderful to be able to knit without having to stop every few yards and work for 20 minutes or more. Untangling knots took 30 minutes of my time. I didn't tape the tail to the top center of the post when I started because I had never used one before and the directions were vague. The tail went into the center when I got it off. I couldn't find it, so I'm relaxing this time from the outside, which is fine; Even so, it's preferable to untangling on a regular basis. The next time, I'll make sure to tape the tail to the top - My daughter gifted me with a pointer.
What sort of enchantment is this? This device is extremely effective. I'd give it a perfect score of 100 stars. It's ideal for knitters and crocheters. I prefer to ball my skeins when I get them because it takes so long and the balls always have a mind of their own and escape whatever I'm working with at the time. Now that I've found a container, I've got nice, tight cakes that sit perfectly flat by my side and behave. Love it!.
So, after assisting my mother in decluttering her craft supplies, I returned home with a tote full of yarn. She gave me a hand winder, but it was too much of a hassle to use. This lovely item, on the other hand, is simply fantastic. It's incredibly simple to assemble and use. The bottom locking button secures the arm, which was a problem with my previous one. Not to mention the clamp's strength; even after undoing the bit that holds the clamps together, it formed such a strong hold that I nearly punched myself in the face trying to get it to release. This is a sure thing. If you have a lot of yarn and prefer it in cake form rather than long sausage form, this is the way to go.
