This shuttle is well made and should hold up for a very long time. You can use the bobbin for winding the thread, but most people just use the center post. I used the bobbin for winding the thread. My shuttle fit well in it when I placed it in the winding tube, and it was easy to wind thread on. Despite the lack of significant friction between the two halves of the shuttle, the magnets seem strong enough to keep the two pieces My first experience with the shuttle was tatting with it. I was able to wind or unwind thread very easily, and it fit comfortably in my hand. The shuttles I buy will be the type I use more often, so I will buy more of them.
As much as I wanted to love this, I couldn't. There is nothing I like better than how easy it is to wind the thread! However, the shape does not suit me well. It feels a little bulky to me. It ends up being dropped a lot.
This is a large kit, however. If you have tiny hands, you may find it difficult to operate.
I like this shuttle a lot. It does not hold near as much thread as my clover does. That is the only reason I gave it 4 stars.
It's lovely and has a lot of threads, but is too slippery for me to hold onto. For this reason, I prefer the pattern on both ends so that my thumb and pointer can hold.
