In my current situation, I run a 135 for heavy upholstery, a machine that can take a lot of abuse. It has needles up to 24.

I purchased it after my Singer 111w104 broke down. The basic lock stitch is variable length with reverse stitching (which is great for securing your stitch ends) and also has the knee lift assembly, which allows you to keep both hands on your workpiece. Now that I have used it for most of the day, I can say that I am very happy with this purchase after working with it for a few hours. A newer version of this machine has a bobbin spooler built in, which I have used once. I was not impressed by it, so I would consider a table mount model as an alternative to this one. We found this item for the same price elsewhere, but shipping would add more, so we went with this.
It's a great one at the price I paid.
I like it.
