I find this machine to be very good. As a teenager, I bought a Viking 1 + brand new back in the 1990s. The top of the line and very expensive dress that I had at the time was good but I didn't like the Whenever I attempted it, the thread would tangle, break, and seem to just be a mess in general. My granddaughters are now 4 and 8 years old, and they love dresses too. As I have dealt with a number of medical issues since the early 2000's, sewing was the last thing I wanted to do. I have since had a couple of surgeries and am feeling more than okay. The Viking was a little out of date, so I wanted to try my hand at machine embroidery again. The Viking Jade is a pricey model, so after doing research, I saw so many negative reviews (I was reviewing the Viking Jade) that I couldn't justify the purchase. After researching many products in the market, I finally settled on the Brother 600, as it had excellent reviews and appeared to have the features I was searching As a matter of fact, I have bought Brother machines for my daughters in the past, but they were quite simple, cheap There was never a lot of durability to them. This is why I was very apprehensive about buying it. My friend, let me tell you, you have pleasantly surprised me. I am in awe of this machine. The items I have made for a hospital neonatal unit were for one of my friends who is an RN there who asked me to make sundresses with matching purses for her granddaughters, zippered pockets for my sewing accessories, and a whole host of other things. (Yes, I also work full time in an office environment. ) It has only been a few weeks since I bought it, but I'm getting a lot of use out of it. It is time for me to make my sister something special - An embroidered initial on the zippered totes I made for myself and my law. It is embroided. The program is great at what it does. The fact that you can upload embroidery patterns from the internet as well as use the included embroidery patterns is very appealing to me. It is a baby step for me, but I am working on it. The machine is the perfect machine for anyone who wants to start sewing or who wants a better sewing machine to improve their skills.
My friend made a lovely card for me recently made with this machine, and I absolutely love it! I've used it mostly for embroidering, but it does a great job and is easy to use for a beginner like myself. The color feature on the screen is quite useful. This is a great product with an excellent instruction manual that is very easy to understand. The threading feature is also very nice and much better than the previous model with the cassette threader (a couple more steps, but it always works).
I like the way this new model embroiders well and is easy to operate. It has a port that allows you to connect a memory stick, so if you need to load a pattern or name, it is easy. As a matter of fact, I mainly embroider names, so I need Amazing Designs lettering software. It took me no more than five minutes to create a name using the Amazing Designs software and then transfer it via the memory stick to the new Brother embroidery machine. The older models have similar functions, but they require a cord to transfer the designs, which was difficult since my computer was in another.
In addition to having a large sewing room, I am also an avid quilter. I purchased this model specifically to replace my beloved CS6000i.
Aztec ended up giving an error message saying that the needle is bent or there is a tangled thread after making just a few test stitches. However, regardless of the service attempts (went through every needle and found no thread tangle), the machine kept on malfunctioning. In my opinion, Brother is experiencing a systemic issue, as I replaced my old machine because of this issue. I returned this machine and ordered a Singer Quantum instead, which came with an extended warranty as well as more stitch options and speed for the same price.
I just finished trying it out by making a casual buttondown shirt from heavy quilting cotton and a pair of lined wool trousers from wool - it performed beautifully both times - I would highly recommend. I'm pleasantly surprised by what I've found out so far! Before using this machine, I used a cheap Brother machine (XR4040) mostly to sew straight, a Singer machine for everything else, and a Brother 1034D to sew serrated. The stitch quality of the machine, the ease with which the embroidery features were utilized, how smoothly and quietly it ran, and the general overall quality were all pleasing factors. The right amount of accessories are included (I added a walking foot to complete it). A rolled hem foot or a binding foot would be nice. However, it does not come with an invisible zipper There are a lot of these on Amazon. com, and they are cheap. The pros are Please note Br>- Smooth and Quiet
- Excellent Value at a low price - It is much easier to use than the previous SE400- The stitching is of a great quality*- This thread cutter works well and pulls the threads to the bottom. - Embroidery is available (it would still be worth this price even if it does not)*br- The motor was quite powerful (it went through *10 layers of heavy quilting cotton and interfacing without a hitch)
Cons Please note Br>- While it probably won't last as long as my 1934 Singer, it still feels like it will last for quite some time at least. (I put cones/king spools in a glass/mug behind the machine and skip the pins* but horizontal thread with caps is a pain. There is only one embroidery design that is 4x4*-- I'm using Stitch Era Universal instead because it has embroidery software, and the included embroidery designs are mediocre (I didn't buy this). -It does not stitch as fast as a commercial sewing machine- A home machine's feed dogs aren't the best (average for a domestic machine, not as good as a true straight stitch machine, a walking foot will improve it).
