It appears to be a knockoff of a more expensive item. The item received is not the same as what was described or shown in the advertisement. Either the manufacturer's standards have been completely abandoned, or this is a low-cost knockoff. First and foremost, rather than polished steel, it is made of brushed aluminum. Second, it is indexed, but not with the painted numbers shown in the image. Finally, there is a warning in the product descriptions: "IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THE FOLLOWING: Keep an eye out for fakes. The SE logo appears on the packaging of genuine SE products. SE is a registered trademark in the United States that is protected by trademark law. " The package for the item I received was missing the logo. Finally, the ring sizes appear to be half-size off. a size in the middle of the scale Fifth, the milling is wildly inconsistent, with the steps clearly increasing in height in different ways. This isn't even close to being worth the price. I returned the first one, but the one I received today is even worse, so I'll return it as well, and I'll keep sending them back until I find one that's close to being decently made. It's a real drag.
The mandrel is heavy, clearly steel rather than aluminum, smooth, and well-marked. I can't say if it gets marked up because I haven't had metal on it yet, but I believe I'm safe assuming I got the genuine article. I'll update my report if I discover anything else. Thank you so much to the sellers; this is exactly what I needed and far superior to the aluminum. My three local craft stores carry plastic. Hobby stores can be found in a variety of locations. It is also very reasonably priced.
When I first got it, I wasn't sure how I felt about it. I got the one with the tiers, which is made of aluminum and not something you want to ravage with a hammer, though I have done so and it has held up well. It seems to be far more accurate than my tapered sizing mandrel in terms of getting the right size. It's also useful for making rings out of wire and other materials, so I'm glad I have it in my toolbox. It's been about a month since I started using it. The numbers have begun to rub off on me, but these are minor details that I don't think are important if the tool is assisting me in my work.
When I first opened the box, I was ecstatic, but then I noticed a Prop 65 and lead warning sticker. GROSS! Why would I want to use a product that contains lead in the first place? You can bet that this will be returned as soon as possible.
Heavy- a mandrel that is used on a regular basis It's excellent and appears to be reasonably accurate. Quite hefty. Because it isn't stainless, you'll have to keep oiling it. We make rings out of coral and metals (gold, silver, and stainless steel), and we need a way to measure the finished product, as well as stretch the metal rings on occasion. It's quite effective.
It's not worth the trouble. Made in India, not the United States of America as advertised. Although a better and more accessory could have been included with the order, America Made was chosen instead. Imports at a discount. SE is not a registered trademark.
