I'm building my own forge, and this is a very good ceramic insulator that will work well. The blanket was not the blanket I was looking for because primarily I needed it in two-inch thickness, but also for the quantity and price (50 feet), this couldn't In view of the fact that I have the one inch thickness, I'm in favor of it because I will be able to easily control the build's thickness. This is more than enough material to build a propane fired foundry as well as an electric foundry, and you'll still have some left over for repairs. Videos on YouTube show people building metal melting furnaces, but very few of them show them utilizing ceramic fiber blankets, and few of them show how they treated their surfaces for insulation. For example, if you are only looking to melt copper or aluminum once or twice that's fine, but if you are trying to make your furnace last as many times as possible then don't forget to invest in a coating like ITC 100HT or Thanks to your added life, you will use less energy in your furnace, you will use less energy in your heat source, and your metals will be less corroded due to the reduced contamination.

There was a huge break in my life. I was able to solve the problem this way. To melt down my heavy aluminum parts I built a large break down furnace, and it was much harder than it should have been. By adding a blanket around the outside of the furnace, I melted over 200 pounds of aluminum within two hours.
