Questions & Answers

A hammer's weight should be determined by the amount of half-hard wire it needs to flatten?

Hammers work very well when it comes to this one. a lot for flattening and shaping on a small anvil, and it does all I need it to do.

Are the edges smooth and the strike area is larger? Or is the hammer slightly convex and therefore has a larger striking area?

Unlike most hammers, this one does not have a rounded face. As a matter of fact, the description is untrue.

What type of head is it? Is it ?

I am unsure. Rather looks like chrome over a black base

The chasing hammer is a domed one, is it not?

There was a slight dome on one side and a round head on the other side of the one I purchased.

I am very pleased with this purchase
5/5

During my ten years as a fine jeweler, I earned an extensive knowledge of the profession. My collection of tools is long, and I don't take kindly to being impressed. In most cases, chasing hammers are made of steel that is rough finished, and the handles are thin compared to Both of those flaws are not present in this tool. With both heads coming with a mirror polish and a handle that is thicker than average, you will not have to constantly worry that it will break. It has a shaped bell on the handle which is slightly larger than average (good for most men) but still comfortable and easy to use. If it's going to be a long time before I need a new hammer, I would suggest buying this one.

The one I had did a good job of work and was in good shape- Constructions made from copper wire can be hardened and flattened
4/5

Making jewelry is just the beginning for me as far as metal and wire are concerned. For one of the projects in my wire wrapping book, the author suggested using a chasing hammer to flatten wire motifs. I bought one of these to make use of it. As I realize it isn't the best wire wrapping machine out there, but it was within my price range, and I didn't want to spend a lot if I didn't even know if I would find wire wrapping enjoyable. Wire wrapping turned out to be a pleasant experience for me. Hammering things flat is one of my favorite things to do. Is there something I need to let out that's causing me to act Anyhow, I used this to use several spiral constructions made out of copper wire (they were originally made with round wire that was very soft). I used it to work harden them and because it isn't as heavy as my one pound brass headed hammer, it is a bit easier to handle. (To dampen vibrations with hammering, I lay down a mouse pad, and then put a steel block on top of that. )

So far, I'm not having any problems with the quality of this product. A Beadaholique. (Me. head, and mine does not appear to be chrome, however it looks and acts as if it is made of steel, based on its I noticed no cracks or splits on the handle, and it looks like a fine, solid wood piece. It is very important to point out that the larger side of the hammer head is not rounded. There is a lot of flat terrain here. You might have problems with edge marks showing if you are hammering something larger than the rounded part, though it wasn't a problem for me since I was hammering a lot of spirals and wires. (Hollow part of smaller side has a rounded edge, so you can use that to hammer. In my small hands, it fits easily (I'm not very big when it comes to sizes) This is a small, framed picture Women with lots of bones). It will probably be necessary to upgrade at some point, but for now, this provides exactly what I need.

On the first day, handle the split
3/5

I received this quickly and without a hitch. After the first day of use, the handle split just below the head. It was a very disappointing hammer, but it was inexpensive. Because I am new to jewelry making, I might have gotten a bit heavy-handed, so I am not sure if anyone else will have the same To hold the repair together until it dried, I removed the Gorilla glue and used clear, reinforced packaging tape. I hardly notice the tape when I am using it with For the moment, the repair appears to have held up. Wet Gorilla glue was used to repair the split on the first image. In the second image, you can see how I use clear tape to hold it together.

The dome face is not to be confused with this
3/5

As soon as I realized this, I changed my rating from 1 to 3, since I realized it would give the wrong impression about the quality of the work. As far as the hammer itself is concerned, it does not have any flaws. The property of hardening small pieces and stamping will appeal to people who don't need it for anything more than hardening. This was solid, and perfect weight and size. It just had a flat face and not a dome as shown on the website! As I already have a flat face, I wanted a dome face specifically for chasing. On the receipt upon arrival, it stated that the domes were facing out. However, I could see and feel that it was a flat face through the plastic bag it was in (it came in a plain, small bubble wrap postage envelope). In addition, the label on the bag said that Despite this, the receipt specifically stated that it was dome-faced. There is no way for me to tell if the shipper thought every one was too ignorant to realize the difference. Nonetheless, I think that I have passed the deadline for returning it, but even though I am not in a position to buy it, I have learned some valuable lessons. Please do not place future orders with that specific shipper. My only wish is that they could be named.

My first use of the hammer this morning was love at first sight
4/5

With I was able to flatten my silver so easily When I make a mistake, I have to own up to it. As I first reviewed this item, I gave it one star because of how it looked, the very thin handle and the fact that I received an item that I had not ordered. Yesterday was one of those days when I slept on things instead of trying to recall things! As for the hammer, I have fallen in love with it since I used it this morning. Almost no marks were left behind on my silver, despite the fact that it flattened it like a charm. Considering my arthritis issues, this handle might just be the answer I've been looking for. As long as I can see how the handle holds up, I'm giving it 4 stars for now! Let me apologize for assuming too much right away. Please accept my thanks!.

It was exactly what I was looking for! The chasing hammer is great
5/5

Having unevenly shaped hands and suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome, I had to sand down the handle to make it more comfortable. It is helpful to add some canting on one side of the joint. It's something I use every day, and I bought a spare in case anything goes wrong. It is remarkable how well both heads have held up despite being polished to a mirror finish. Other users have complained of loose handles, but I haven't had a problem yet. On the other hand, I am slightly OCD when it comes to keeping my tools clean.

However, it does not work well
4/5

My first hammer, I must admit I am just beginning my journey into making jewelry. I was really pleased with it for a few days, but then I noticed a slight bubble on the large flat side I used the most often. In due course, the top layer of the hammer started to peel off. whole layer off, and now it seems to be working perfectly, and it has a smooth feel to it. I thought the peeling thing was a little weird, but it still works perfectly. I like how easy it is for somebody like me who is just starting out.

Flat is not what we mean
3/5

Despite what the reviews said prior to purchasing this, it was a dud. There is a flat spot on one side of the head. There is a slight dome to it so it leaves a mark on There is also a rounded edge on the other side.
