Questions & Answers

Is there a tooth on the chain nose plier?

Hello, there are no teeth on the chain nose pliers. Thanks.

Is it possible to use 12 gauge copper wire with these?

No, I mean, you could probably make them work, but 12g is a lot of weight. Personally, I'd go to a hardware store and get a pair of medium-sized regular pliers. I'm not a fan of using jewelry pliers on 14g, let alone 12g.

When I'm finished with a bracelet, what can I use to tie a tight knot?

You tie the knot, then pull both ends of the cord as tight as you can without breaking it; with stretch cord that is 1mm thick or thicker, you may need to repeat this process several times. Use clear drying jeweler's glue, super glue, or my personal favorite, clear gorilla glue once the knot has set. It's runny and doesn't dry hard; instead, it sets up as a flexible, rubbery, and stretchy substance that doesn't irritate or scratch the skin, but it takes 24 hours to fully cure. Only a smidgeon is required, and it is completely undetectable and will remain so. One bottle will keep you going for a long time! Long before you ran out, you probably set up shop inside the bottle. It's been over a year since I opened a bottle, and it's still delicious. br>Watch YouTube videos for other types of cord. You'll need to learn about cord and wire string diameters, as well as which fasteners to use and what size fasteners to use based on the diameter of your cord or wire string. The best and strongest bead stringing wire is 49 strand; I've never had a piece break on it. However, the use of superglue ruins it. If you use high-quality, long-lasting fasteners, your pieces will last a long time; if they're soft and easy to apply, they'll most likely break. Use fasteners that require some muscle to manipulate. You will not be disappointed!

What tools do I require solely for the purpose of making Clip-ons? On a pair of earrings?

You'll need to purchase earring backs with clips already attached that are appropriate for what you're attaching to them. To make them yourself, you'd need a full-fledged machine shop. br>Then, using glue, wire wrapping, colored threads, or whatever you want, add your beads, cabochons, or other decorations. Depending on what you're putting on the earring clips, you'll need a different set of tools. Glue, pliers, or beading needles are some of the tools you'll need. Despite the fact that I've never made a clip- I've turned a lot of them into pierced earrings with my earnings, so I'm familiar with the various types of clips. I've never seen them on any jewelry supply website or catalog, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. It's just that they're difficult to come by. br>Alternatively, you could just buy a bunch of really ugly ones at garage sales and use only the clips, saving some of the other parts for later. Simply toss out any cheap plastic beads or pieces after carefully removing them and see what else is available to make new earrings out of. br>You'll have to think outside the box! br>I, for one, despise bloody things! They are excruciating!

Pliers with a dull cutting edge
3/5

I'm very disappointed because the cutter pliers, out of all the other tools in this set, are very dull and can't even cut a thin wire. *see photos* I really needed the cutter pliers. Let's see how the other tools perform.

It does exactly what it says it will
3/5

This kit comes with a large number of tools. The blades of the cutters are razor-sharp as well. Actually, it's quite sharp, so take care. When I first got them, they were a little bent, but I was able to straighten them out and they were fine. br>br>This isn't bad for the number of tools you get for the price, especially considering the case. Yes, some of the tools are of lower quality than others, but that is to be expected. The cutter tool was greasy and oily when it arrived. Cleaning it took me ten minutes. It had a lot of oil in its little pouch. I suppose it was to keep it from rusting while it sat? However, it appeared to be a little pointless. br>br>If you only need one or two of these tools to fix jewelry, the kit should suffice.

The quality is extremely poor
3/5

CHEAP! I've owned jewelry-making tools in the past, but I've never bought anything so basic in my life; the tools are rusted, which would be dangerous when working with findings and wire; and I could have bought this for less than a dollar. Wow, I'm so disappointed, and the majority of the tools will be discarded or returned to Amazon (this is the first negative review I've ever left on Amazon).

Why am I so easily reminded of the adage "you get what you pay for"? This falls under the category of "you get what you pay for
3/5

" The cost is low, which is in line with the kit. I can use a few of the items, but it's mostly junk china. For your information, here are some specifics: Wire Cutters are a type of wire cutter that can be used to cut wire. Even the tiniest head pin wouldn't be able to cut through it. I had to grip the wire with the cutter and then go back and forth with the pliers until the piece came off. Wow. br>Orange measuring device: flimsy plastic contraption that will break before you know it. br>Needle in a blue color- Threading device; it'll last about a week; the wire is ridiculously thin because it's so cheap. br>The pliers are "okay," but they left marks on the wire I was working with. They aren't as smooth as they appear. br>The carrying case is convenient, and the jump ring holder is adequate. I'll make do with this until I can afford better gear. Is this a good place to start for a teenager?.

We've got a Tisket, a Tasket, and a Cluttered Basket
3/5

When I first opened the zippered bag, I noticed that it appeared to contain everything a person would need to do jewelry repair or construction at home, as described in the product description. This appeared to me to be a jumbled-up kit with no information to help me figure out what each tool's purpose was. One of the easily identified items was a 1/4 inch wide tape measure, but it appeared to be poorly made, preventing it from being of long-term use. The metal tools raised concerns about their long-term durability and rusting potential, while the orange tool was made of a cheap hard plastic that was not impact resistant. I found it difficult to appreciate the product because there was no manual or even labeling some of the items by name inside the case; however, I could see this tool kit being useful for beginners to stuff in a what-if scenario. I don't have a drawer, and I don't want to have one.

If your project is simple, the price is low but the quality is not
3/5

The equipment was not up to the task. Both cutters are unable to snip nylon cleanly. The tweezers worked fine, but they didn't have enough tension to grip a necklace halfway through and a quarter of the way through when knotting. I tried using the crimping tool, but it just didn't work for me. The price was reasonable, and they were probably preferable to a pre-packaged kit with tools and jewelry materials for a beginner or child. It's a minor annoyance in this case. I would have gone back, but I've never been able to get the tools to fit back in the right place and close properly. If you're on the fence, go ahead and spend the extra $5. For an extra ten dollars, you can get a higher-quality product. If it was a one-time first project, the price was excellent; however, I am now looking for another.

It is essentially a case filled with "dollar tree" type items

I mostly got it for the wire cutters, but they do not cut even the thinnest wire.

The long nose pliers had rust and other debris on the end of them, giving the impression that they had been used previouslybr>br>The wire cutters had some defects around the cutter partbr>br>The scissors would not close at all due to a combination of angles and pressure exerted on the bladesbr>br>Returned the product.
