I was let down. I changed my rating from three to two stars because this product is truly disappointing, as evidenced by the photographs. br>I'll be completely honest: I'm not impressed with this bench 'block. ' br>At first, I was pleased with it, but after about a month of use, it is no longer performing as well as I had hoped. br>I'd say I've stamped/textured about 10 different things with this block. It's been 15 times now, and the fact that the face of it is already pitted and deformed is disappointing. br>The purpose of a stamping steel block is to provide a stable, smooth surface on which to stamp or hammer your metal in order to get a crisp impression and avoid damaging the back of your piece. I've only used it to stamp sterling silver, and it's not even close to being as hard as steel, so I don't think it's of very high quality. br>I was hopeful because it had good reviews and I liked how it had a built-in rubber base to cushion hammer blows, but I'll have to keep looking for something else. To be honest, it was a waste of money because we were outside the return window.
This block initially piqued my interest, but after only two uses, it has already been marked. It's now leaving imprints on the backs of my pieces. The block was put in place to prevent this from happening.
It's only the second time I've used it with the Owden hammer, and it already has marks on it. From here, I can easily see how things will go downhill. My hopes for a non-violent future Metals with a textured finish are still out of reach. If you're not only going to use it for metal stamping on leather, get a more durable bench block. It's not so great when metal meets metal.
This block has made me extremely unhappy. With only a few uses, it has already developed dents and scratches, and it is marring the opposite side of my items.
This is what I'm using to hammer the various elements of my copper wire wrapped pendants. It's fantastic! Some people claim it dents, but I believe this is due to them hammering too hard and using harder metals. It's excellent for copper, and I'm pleased with the results. Just be careful if you're hammering steel items; if you're going to use harder metals, you might want to get a different hammering block. However, for my purposes, this is ideal and absolutely adorable! It fits in my backpack, and the soft silicone base makes it much easier to transport because it doesn't scratch the other items I haphazardly throw in there.
I've only tried it out, but the rubber cushion seems to do a good job of dampening the rebound when I hammer on it. Very good, especially for the price. br>br>* After a month of use, it's still going strong!.
I'm hoping they make one that's even bigger so it'll be easier to stamp on bracelets. Overall, this is the third one I've purchased, and it's by far the best for stamping with precision. I tried stamping on both aluminum and steel bracelet blanks, and both came out CLEAN. Stamping was 95% better than other blocks I have that leave indentation on the back side of the blanks. Now that I've discovered the perfect jewelry stamping block, I'll practice until I get the perfect amount of force to avoid leaving ANY indentation on the back of the blanks. I would strongly suggest it.
Under my zoom microscope, I intend to use it for microelectronics assembly. Even with the 3/4" height/thickness and small-size, its 3" diameter is sufficient for the field of view of a typical working microscope. ish inches in diameter It's plenty large enough in the world of microelectronics. The silicone-coated orange Its ish removable base prevents it from sliding around, which is a fantastic feature. Superior chrome plating and a long-lasting carbon steel material selection are also appealing features. On the top surface, I'll use kapton tape to keep heat and other objects from sticking to or scratching it. Magnets will also be used to keep things in place, which will be extremely useful for electronics work. I like it so much that I just placed an order for another one. It's a fantastic tool to have in my lab. Also, keep in mind: The merchant (in China) is extremely helpful and prompt in responding to emails with responses to any questions. br>br>In a few days, I'll post some photos. br>br>I wholeheartedly endorse this merchant/seller as well as this bench/block.
