I don't think grip pads are necessary. A steel block is all that is needed.
A little more than two
So far, I have not experienced this problem. As far as I can tell, I haven't seen any imprints on it, as I use it for making knife bolsters. It was my pleasure to help. I hope
Ideally, the best surface for stamping metal letters would be a flat workbench, but I just think that a concrete floor will do

The dimensions are not exactly what is Take a look at the photos. The edges are a bit rough. It weighs well and has a solid feel to it. There is a light coating of oil on the product in packaging, as A package that was not packed properly for shipping. In a bag there was a block of wood. In the case of that bag, it was packed in a small cardboard box, which was not taped down to stop it from falling out, causing it to tumble around in a medium sized box with another small item (however, neither item was damaged).
Although it is hard, it is not nearly as tough as a bench block. Steel of this hardness would be referred to as "half hard". When a block of wood was dragged with a 6oz chasing hammer, dents created by a piece of *dead soft* copper wire destroyed the grain. The anvil is easy to use, but it doesn't have a lot of power Generally, manuals are not required for these kinds of tools.
Stamps leave a mark on the metal surfaces after they are stamped.
It is a good quality tool for people wishing to get into hammering jewelry but who do not want to spend a lot of money on.
There's a shiny thing and there's a hard thing! Although I mean it seriously. This is a GREAT buy based on the SIZE of the block in comparison to other stores I checked!.
It is of a good size. A good size is neither too large nor In addition to protecting the surface, thickness adds structural integrity. It would be beneficial to have felt discus to attach to absorb some of the shock, but that should be easy to accomplish.
Except for the oily residue that came on this bench block, I was happy with it. The packaging kept it from getting damaged, so all I had to do was wipe it down. However, if we knew that this would happen, it would have been more pleasant. There could have been a note on the packaging explaining the need for oily residue if one existed. When I made copper fold earrings as part of my rock club class, the bench worked well for me. It wasn't the price that motivated me. It was convenience. I have no idea if the cost was competitive.
In the description, it says that all sides are hardened. My file easily bites into the steel when I tested it with a file. It is a soft steel anvil, so the file would have glided smoothly across any surface if their description is accurate.
