Yes. I believe they would work for any zippers that will be used on backpacks or jackets - Because the hole at the bottom of these zippers is larger (due to the fact that the zipper is a more heavy-duty style), Regular blouse and skirt zippers have a smaller hole at the end of the zipper and will most likely not fit. I used these for a similar purpose, and I tried them on with every jacket I own. The quality is excellent.
I sewed two of them together and pulled as hard as I could on the fabric I'd threaded through the loops, and they seemed to hold - I couldn't see any bending or giving. So, yes, they are capable of supporting a weight of 5 pounds.
You might want to look for something with a bit more space. This is a small item. I used them to make lip balm holders that could be attached to a keychain ring.
The ones I got are a standard silver color, similar to what you'd find on badge rings or clips at work.

These clips arrived in a timely manner and are the perfect size for my projects. The clips are more durable than others I've purchased through another app. And there are a plethora of sunsets to choose from; When I need a clip or a ring, I won't have to scramble.
These can be attached to almost anything to turn it into a great keepsake. I'll use them again because they're sturdy and portable.
