Questions & Answers

What is the source of my ice's plastic flavor? It began to make my water and everything else taste like plastic all of a sudden. ?

After a few months, the ice I had started to taste bad. I cleaned it and it was fine; first, I drained it through the plug and rinsed it with water. As the water drained, I noticed some particulate, so I flushed it again and again until it was clear. Then I ran it for a few batches with a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar (about a cup), then rinsed, drained, and ran it again with fresh water. There is no bad taste at all.

Mold is said to form quickly; how easy is it to remove? How do you clean it? Do you rinse it with vinegar or do you scrub it?

No mold has been discovered. It's possible that's why because we use it every day, but we turn it off when my son goes to bed. I believe you could add some vinegar to the water and run it for a few cycles, then drain it (there is a drain plug), refill it with water, and run another cycle or two to clear the vinegar. Because the cycles are short, this should take no more than an hour. Although the vinegar smell may linger for a while.

Is this ice maker only compatible with distilled or softened water?

If you live in an area with hard water (ours is among the worst in the country), use filtered water or the parts will become caked with particulates after a few hours of use (my "smart" son-- Water from the tap was used by law; After about 8 months, it stopped working, and the ice became chalky.

How is water delivered to the ice machine? Is there a Reservoir somewhere in the making?

Thank you for getting in touch with me, Bettyk. Water can be stored in the reservoir of our Ice Maker. This will keep the water warm until you're ready to use it. If you have any additional questions, please contact us. br>hOme Support, br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>br>

However, there are some disadvantages to fast ice
3/5

I needed to buy this quickly, so I didn't read some of the reviews that pointed out some flaws that I would have avoided if I had known about. If you're looking for a quick-to-make portable ice machine for events/parties, this appears to be a good option; it's quick, quiet, and simple to operate. However, I wanted to use it to replace our freezer ice maker, which it isn't really designed for. It does not keep the ice cold in the basket, as other reviewers have noted. When the cubes melt, they will return to the water tank. I tried emptying them into our freezer whenever it became full, but because the cubes were not kept cold, they became stuck together in the freezer. br>br>Such a long story in such a short space of time - If you want to make ice right away, use this method. 5 stars, but I would look for other options if you want to use it as a freezer ice maker replacement.

It is ideal for daily use
5/5

It is ideal for daily use. It fits perfectly on our counter and takes up very little space. My coffee maker is a little bigger than this. It produced four rounds of ice in less than 30 minutes and is still working. After washing the machine, I let it settle overnight before filling it with water according to the instructions. br>Makes very little noise, except when dumping ice (which you can hear), when it emits a faint hum that you must pay attention to.

I've included a video of random screams
3/5

It creates ice and is extremely loud while doing so, making a grinding mechanical noise as if it were out of water when it isn't. It does it when it's first starting out, when it's in the middle of the day, and when it's dropping ice. It's extremely annoying. I wish we had purchased a different brand because it is now nearly constant. Hate it.

It does the job, is a little loud, and the ice melts if you leave it outside
4/5

I'll start with the disadvantages: br>This ice machine worked fine. All of the features were as advertised, with the exception that the ice melts inside too quickly if used outside for camping and other activities. That's why I bought it in the first place, because a few other reviews mentioned how much they enjoyed it for that reason. Also, I'm not sure if my ice maker was defective or not, but pouring cold water into the reservoir produced no ice cubes for at least an hour. It says 6 on this page. The time is 8 minutes. Mine was nowhere near as good, and this was done in the air conditioning. br>It is bulky, but the size is listed on the website, so that has no bearing on this review. It only makes 8 ice cubes at a time. br>The noise is a little too loud for my taste, but I'm not sure if counter top ice machines make noise as well. It also doesn't keep the ice cold, so when it's full, it turns off, the ice melts, and it turns on again and again. You should be fine as long as you keep up with the emptying. br>Because the ice cubes are "wet," if you remove them and place them in the freezer, they will all freeze together, which you will have to break apart later.
Pros: I like how you can choose between large and small ice cubes. br>If your ice melts, the water returns to the reservoir. br>Because the reservoir is so large, you won't need to refill it very often. If you stay on it and keep removing the ice it produces, it will make a lot of ice. br>I like the ice scoop because it saves me from having to dig through the ice with my dirty hands. br>It measures 9 inches long. It measures 5 x 13 x 14 inches and comes fully assembled. br>br>In my opinion, it would be a five-star hotel if it were better insulated and quieter. It gets a 3 from me. We'll go with 4 for the time being.

I'm really looking forward to it!   I was very excited to try out this ice maker that I had just received
5/5

The speed with which it began to produce ice cubes surprised me. I started with the smaller ones, and the first batch of ice cubes was ready in ten minutes after plugging the machine in. In under an hour, the basket was completely full. This is ideal if you require a large quantity of ice in a short amount of time. You have to pour water into the machine because there is no way to connect it to a water line, and it isn't very loud. I've included a photo of the machine in action as well as a video of it in action.

While it lasts, it does its job
3/5

It's been doing its job for the past two weeks. Don't expect giant ice cubes, but if you don't have any in your freezer, it's nice to know that this will make some for you in a matter of minutes. It's a little noisy, but nothing too bad because the kids, television, and dog drown out any noises it makes. UPDATE: This thing is garbage after almost three months. Even when the machine is turned off, the bucket that holds the water continues to dump it. It is rattling because it will not make ice. To stop the bucket from moving, I had to unplug it. It just goes back and forth. My previous ice maker had a four-year life expectancy. I'm now up to my eyeballs in debt. They only give you a month to return this garbage, so you can't even return it. I'll shop at a big-box store with a better return policy next time.

Ice is one of my favorite things, and this ice maker is fantastic
5/5

This ice maker is absolutely fantastic! I'm not sure why we waited so long to purchase one. We have two refrigerators in the house, both of which have ice makers, but neither of them works! We've been buying ice for several years because we live in Arizona, which is extremely hot. I estimate that our family of six spends around $40 per month on ice. I love this little machine because it fits on my counter, looks nice, is relatively quiet, and makes ice in two sizes quickly. Filling it is also a breeze. If you're making ice ahead of time to store, I recommend either putting it in a bag in your freezer until it refreezes, then breaking it up and adding it to another container/bucket, or just keeping it in a bag so you can throw it on the ground to break it apart. When you get the ice out of the machine, it's very wet, and if you're storing it in your freezer, you'll end up with a big block of ice When the ice tray is full, it automatically stops running, but as soon as some of the ice melts down or you remove some of the ice, it resumes working immediately. This is a fantastic product; thank you, hOme, for making life easier; it's the little things that count! I'm crossing my fingers that its performance won't be harmed by frequent use.
