YES, YOU ARE READY FOR THE GARAGE! This Danby freezer (5.) was recently purchased and received by me. Amazon has a 5 cuft model. According to the owner's manual that came with the freezer, it could not be placed in a garage. I received confirmation from Danby that this unit is, in fact, garage ready after spending a long time on the phone with a very helpful amazon customer service representative and an inquiry directly to Danby. The owner's manual that came with it hasn't been updated yet, it appears. The updated owner's manual is available for download directly from the Danby website. Whew! I'm hoping that this will alleviate future purchasers' concerns and time spent researching this product's garage ready rating.

I contacted the manufacturer, who confirmed that these freezers are suitable for use in a garage. It's also confirmed by Danby's updated manual. The manual that comes with these is out of date, but don't worry, this model was recently updated to make it garage ready. My freezer was in perfect condition when it arrived, and it's a fantastic freezer.
I bought this "garage ready" chest freezer because it was advertised as being able to be put in a garage, so I got a bigger one than I was looking for because it could be put out there. NOT FOR OUTSIDE USE, according to the instructions. Garages and patios are examples of this type of structure. I'm furious about it because I don't have anywhere else to put it. And these are difficult to come by these days, especially ones that haven't been damaged during shipping, which this one was not, but I'm not sure how long this item will work properly out in the garage. So, if this is also your plan for placement, this freezer might not be right for you!.
Setup is simple. It's perfect now that I've added some organizer baskets; I had it mostly filled with meats and fish during the recent "public safety power outage" perpetrated by PG&E. California is represented by the letter E. On the top layer of my freezer, I had a gallon bag of ice cubes. The ice had not melted after 38 hours of being without power.
When it was delivered, it was completely destroyed. The compressor's vent is dented, and the lid won't close. The inside parts are loose, and while the freezer is probably great, getting it to your door in one piece appears to be impossible. Fix your shipping problems, and you might not lose as much money on returned damaged products.
Despite the fact that this was perfectly packaged, we discovered TWO dents after removing all of the packaging. This makes me angry.
The freezer was well-protected during shipping and arrived in perfect condition. It appears to be fantastic. It was simple to install and move it into place. I plugged it in after allowing it to sit for 6 hours. br>br>This freezer arrived on a day when the temperature in my area reached new highs. I was putting together a freezer in a garage. There is very little temperature protection in this type of space. When I nervously plugged the freezer in, the room was 900 degrees Fahrenheit. What's even more remarkable? It kept ice frozen solid for 6 hours after being plugged in! That's a fantastic freezer you've got there. After a day, new high-temperature records- Everything is fine, including ice cream, now that the room temperature has risen to 900F. br>br>Another thing that strikes me about this freezer is how quiet it is. I had expected it to be much louder, and I'm relieved that it isn't. br>br>I'm interested to see how well it holds up during the colder months, when the room temperature may drop to 20 degrees. 30⁰F. As others have noted, the printed manual contradicts the information in this listing, stating that the freezer is unable to withstand these temperatures. According to Danby, the printed manual for another model is straightforward, and the freezer is garage-ready. It has passed the hot weather test thus far, and if it fails the cold weather test this winter, I will update my review. br>br>If you're looking for a garage that's not too expensive, I doubt you could come up with a better idea than this for a chest freezer.
I didn't get to use it because it came with a snapped off ground plug and I didn't want to risk causing a fire by using it. Returning is inconvenient. br>br>Other low ratings came from customers who complained about dents and damage. This one appeared to be in good condition, and the packaging indicated that it had been shipped with a cheaply snapped third ground prong on the plug. It's a shame they didn't QC it before packaging it for sale to the general public.
I was concerned that the freezer would arrive damaged, but it did so well-packaged and undamaged! This chest freezer quickly chills food and maintains a constant temperature of 0 degrees F with the thermostat only half-way turned. It also runs at a low volume. This purchase has met our expectations.
